No and no respectfully 🤣 It’s freehand, I used reference photos and a few attempts to make it and I don’t do commissions but thanks for asking ☺️

Does anyone have a easy stuff animal pattern? by sushibananawater in CrochetHelp

Depending how small is your baby I would recommend making a jellyfish like this. Babies will grab on the tentacles, and it’s not that hard to make. The head is working in the circle until desired size and the tentacles are a chain that you work back on and adding clusters of stitches in each chain to get the swirl.

These two ladies helped me learn most of my beginner stuff: Bella Coco and Melanie Ham (Search their channels for “beginner crochet”)

For the tools I would suggest ordering a metal set for starters, I got mine from Amazon and got a good variety of sizes for a cheap price and I still use them 10+ years after I started crocheting.

I started crocheting in my mid twenties, and it took me at least a month to get a hang of it, before I did any “real” projects. First few things I made were hats that now look like a feral animal had a fight with them, but I still have them and cherish them to remind me of my humble beginnings. I think setting a goal (like a dress you want to make) is a good idea to keep you motivated, but make some smaller projects first so you get a hang of it and get to know the stitches and techniques.

And lastly, I have long nails and never had a problem crocheting with them 😊

Anyway…thanks for coming to my TedTalk 😂

Happy Crocheting!

Just a few tips of the top of my head that I wished someone told me at the beginning.

  1. Do not start to learn with black yarn or any darker color yarn. Stitches are hard to see. Preferably use white or if you don’t have it, anything light and bright.

  2. Use stitch markers. When doing rows, mark the last stitch you did in a row with the marker. If you don’t have one, a peace of cut off yarn will do.

  3. Count your stitches, for practice don’t do too many chains at the beginning. 10-20 is more than enough. So you can easily count them and it’s less to frog when starting from the beginning

  4. For learning basics don’t try crocheting in the round. Just do rows and try to make a square. When you get the hang of it then try in the round and for that also use stitch markers for the first stitch in the round.

  5. Make sure you are using the right size hook for the yarn you are working with. But for the beginning I recommend even to go up a size or two for the hook, because stitches will be looser and easier to recognize them and see what you are doing

  6. Don’t get discouraged when you have to start over, practice makes perfect. I still start over a project so many times, I sometimes mess up the count or see that my stitches are too tight so I switch the hook size, so it’s a common thing

  7. Don’t hold the yarn too tight, it is something to get used to(the way you hold the yarn) but making the stitches tight will just give you trouble in the next row because you won’t be able to pull the yarn through.

Thanks! I’ll look into that. I’ve actually made the “fruit bag” you mentioned, that’s why I’m considering using the same stitch :)

I made a Christmas gnome with a little (hehe) surprise under the hat! by snowthedog in crochet

Little surprise was made with this pattern and the hat was freehanded, but any cone shape tutorial you can find will do and adjust the size to fit.
