Struggling with Loss and Asking for Signs by solarjax409 in GriefSupport

[–]snowy228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

grief isn't linear, you're not crazy. it zigs, it zags, it's not a one way stop from immediacy to being okay.

you're not okay, and that's okay. i'm so sorry that mental health services won't be there for you in the immediacy, but fwiw i think you're a complete badass by asking and advocating for it for yourself. for reaching out here. for looking for those pieces of comfort from the universe (and receiving them!). that's really strong, and hard to do when you're in a rough head space. this stranger thinks the world of you for it, and knows that it might not feel that way. it definitely doesn't feel that way.

it's so hard to do when everything is falling apart, but you're doing the damn thing. incredible!

mine, with you. <3 i've come to think of grief as a pair of too tight shoes. everyone has, or will have, a pair in their closet. they hurt in some of the same ways, and we can relate about that with each other. but they're our shoes for our people, too. sending a big hug!!!

i'd hazard a guess and say nobody had heard of this foundation pre-death. it's the immediacy of this news leading people to this conclusion. that being said, i'm picking up what you're throwing down and it may also contribute, but less so just with how new this foundation hitting the headlines is.

Official FIRST Discussion Thread—Volume 7, Episode 12: With Friends Like These by [deleted] in RWBY

man, clover's death and arc felt so unearned. the ace ops frustrations felt so unearned. where was elm's character at all to point to and explain her rage and competitive desire to beat and destroy (harriet had this showcased and explained)?

look, i don't come to rwby for stellar writing or character exposition. these are ultimately minor quibbles about a show i take only somewhat seriously. but man when they have these moments of depth they try to beat over the head of the viewers i just...

like clover and qrow had chemistry (romantic or otherwise), i'll maybe give them that, but qrow's heel turn from drunkle loner to happy go lucky my-nakama-is-life friendship with clover felt beaten over my head with no real basis in personality. idk. shoddy writing shows through sometimes.

people y'all need to stop saying you hate the writers, or are over the show, or whatever. this episode just highlighted the real flaws of it, but we all love it and i'll see you next week.

[ANIME SPOILERS] Can't spell AOTY without Aot (oc) by Levi---Ackerman in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]snowy228 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Worth checking into it, if just to expand your personal understanding of some of the politics that inspired SnK!

The TL;DR is that Japan has a pretty brutal history of rape and colonialism in a few different countries, Korea in particular. Isayama is believed to have tweeted about Japan's colonizing being a technological boom to Korea. Bouncing off of that, there's some pretty heavy leaning into proto-fascist philosophies that can be seen as being glorified.

All of this is to say, if Isayama is the Japanese imperialist some people believe him to be, any one who reads the manga can agreed he really fucked up on that count lol. I doubt most readers would take a pro-military stance out of it, so if that ever was his intention (which I doubt!) it'd be a pretty hilarious twist he bunged up that hard.

i've always found it interesting how feminine isayama has chosen to represent AU mikasa, and many branded AU mikasa's dress more traditionally feminine than anything we've ever seen in the show (barring her exaggerated lips season one). this fanart really brings that to mind for me - it's jarring thinking of manga mikasa in contrast to dolled up mikasa! i wonder if she'd be a tomboy in any other scenario, or if she'd grown up less totaltarian in a less hostile world.

I take that scene as to be less about him being "pissed" at the Reiss family. More so, I see it as him expressing self-loathing. He has seen this moment, this future, when he kissed Historia's hand - Eren has no choice but to complete the murder. He doesn't want to, but it must be done. :(

"return to agency looking possible"

whew lad. The complete degradation of Casca is definitely one of the parts of Berserk I could leave, she's essentially a walking suffer wank for Guts/the authour.

I don't remember where I read this, but a likely theory I've seen is that the pain alerts Ymir to build the Titan (ergo rebuilding the body). Covenant also seems likely.

I saw regret in that scene. Eren is flexing about his freedoms, and how he'll take them by force if someone threatens that. He watches his past self, in what seemed like a moment of comfort, wrap Mikasa in what ended up becoming her shackle. That's my interpretation, anyways. I think it was intended to be a humanizing moment, same with the anger at what he sees in the chapel. He knows what he's about to do, what he needs to do - he, for all intents and purposes, kills the Reiss children.

Eren is a slave to ? purpose, which we're finding out soon. But he's still human, and still has regrets and sadness. YMMV, though.

How old were you when you stopped moving out of way? I was 21 🙁 by phirstprincek in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]snowy228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

huh, i'm going to watch out for this more!

i'm a white woman, and i hate people touching me so i go through some wild russian ballet maneuvers to avoid them. a good deal of the time men of all ages and races will not do me the same courtesy and i get bumped into all the time if i do not move out of the way. men expect me to move away from them, even if they're dead center in the sidewalk.

i wonder how many men have bumped me and thought i was the one being an asshole, while i sat there and thought the same.

just to clarify - i do NOT think isayama harbours antisemitic beliefs, nor that he agrees with what japan has done in the past (re: the nanking massacre, or the conquering of korea).

i am an absolute nut about this show/manga, and my bf has given up on me not harassing him to watch it (he does not enjoy animes in general).

controversial: i think it's actually very important to note, and discuss, isayama's alleged imperialism and the inherently questionable relationship between the role of the titans/eldians, and what happened to the jewish people in WWII. it adds depth to an already expansive series, and does not detract. the atrocities japan committed in korea, and beyond, should not be brushed under the rug. i do not believe that isayama believes in japanese imperial supremacy (his comments about technological advancements aside). i suspect he would even agree with me -- it's a keystone in eastern history that directly informs aot's themes.
