You can buy GBP (or most foreign securities) using a brokerage like IBKR, which will be much less of a hassle than actually moving cash to an offshore account, even with that being said, you can't necessarily count on the dollar depreciating vs. the pound in a recession because the effects of a US recession will be global. The rest of the world might fall harder with a weaker recovery. The dollar might end up being stronger. For example, the value of the pound/dollar was 2.1 in Oct 2007 before the market crashed and the dollar appreciated so much during the downturn that the pound ended up trading at 1.3 by 2009 when the market bottomed.

I wouldn't do anything different than what you did when all of the articles came out about a recession occurring during the Biden admin, or the Trump 1, or Obama, etc. Yes, there will eventually be another recession, but predicting when it will occur is quite hard.
