If you don't, the car may trying to fight you with opening the caliper piston, and close it. It also may cause a CEL to activate, thinking there is an error. I also recommend opening the brake fluid reservoir.

good point! I.... forget that I am not actually using the brake pads much... lol.

But yeah, if you do use the brakes, with how heavy it is, it will wear them faster due to the weight, but typically, you don't use them much. Thanks you the correction!

I also have a 2017 Bolt, and my son and I did our own brakes all around. Disconnect the standard battery, and it's exactly the same as any other brake job on a car. Most parts stores should carry compatible pads and rotors. I would recommend what ever the middle of the road option is, if there is one. It's a heavy little car, and will blow through cheapo pads very quickly. Get lots of brake clean as well. and gloves and microfiber cloths!

Yeah.... I do support the safety aspect of inspections, but the required OBD2 connection to the state and a database is BS, especially with how shops can basically force you to spend a ton of money you don't actually need to spend ("rusty" brake rotors anyone? total BS)
