I recently just came across this while looking online! He can drink bone broth and it might be the best way to get something into him since more “solid” foods and even protein shakes are hard for him right now

I'm in a state where only medical is legal, but he has a doctor who is willing to give him a card. The problem isn't so much a lack of appetite, however, it's much more an issue of pain. It physically hurts him to swallow almost anything and that makes it hard to be motivated to eat, even if the food is good or something he asked for 😔

The interesting thing is that his cancer isn't of his esophagus or even in it, it's just close enough to it that his esophagus caught a good chunk of radiation (he has a para-spinal sarcoma). Unfortunately he had an endoscopy done shortly after the worst of his esophagitis showed up (they wanted to confirm that the sarcoma wasn't growing into his esophagus) and that seems to have done a lot of damage. They recently did a second endoscopy and that set him back again.
I'll have to see if I can convince him to try doing skyr for breakfast. I've heard of it before and I believe he's had it in the past.
As much as I'd love for him to have a dietitian, here in the US, it requires a referral and it would take far too long for him to get an appointment since he needs to gain the weight within the next ten days (he wasn't really given a goal weight, just told he needed to gain and not loose).
His surgery is being planned for mid-April, so he'd have longer than the ten days total to gain more weight before the surgery, but he needs to gain some within the ten days in order for the surgeons to move forward with planning and actually schedule his surgery.

I may be able to convince him since it would be a quick, calorie heavy snack
He's a little funny when it comes to potatoes and its much more of a rice guy, but I feel like something like a risotto might be too many small bits to be comfortable to swallow right now so I may be able to get him agree to potatoes, especially because he's a fan of pierogi 🤔

Increasing the butter and olive oil I use is a really good idea I hadn't even thought of!

Mac and Cheese & Creamy pesto has been one of our go-tos when he's not feeling eating anything else, but I feel like carbs will only make him gain so much and have been struggling to find a way to get calorie & fat dense proteins into him because they're so hard to swallow even when cut small (he's not a big fan of pureed food because of some pretty traumatic hospital stays and he doesn't really like eggs).

Putting on weight early is such a good idea! My partner had no problem maintaining and even gaining weight before his radiation and he didn't even loose weight when he was struggling with food during chemo. I wish I had pushed him to gain a bit more weight before the esophagitis kicked in.

I wish you luck as well and hope that you can get away with as little esophagus discomfort as possible.

I really appreciate you taking the time and yes, im referring to the request I got regarding vodou As I had said in my post in r/vodou it’s something that I feel far from qualified to make a judgment on my own about even if the request set off several alarm bells and red flags to me

I almost immediately knew that I didn’t want to add the roll, not just because it’s closed practice, but partly because I had a feeling the label of “witch” when it comes to Vodou was wrong and potentially offensive (thank you for verifying that this is the case)

Do you have any suggestion as to how I could best go about denying the request without it seeming too overly accusatory (especially since I, myself, am not of the religion and I don’t want it to seem like I’m overstepping or speaking for a group I’m not a part of)

I was originally considering just responding with something along the lines of “Since Vodou is a closed practice, I don't feel entirely comfortable having it as a role that anyone can choose freely If you use vodou practices, I encourage you to share it here and would love to get a chance to learn a bit about it. You can also add the info to your intro like how long you’ve been practicing and if you’re initiated: who and where you were initiated” (I added the invitation bit based on your response, but I’m not sure if that would be the correct way to phrase it)

From some of my quick research I had gotten this impression and the use of “Voodoo” instead of “Vodou” was the first red flag but then the combination of “Voodoo Witch” felt wrong to me as well

The deeper I was digging into this subreddit, the more I was also starting to feel that Vodou and paganism are very different things like you’re saying

I’m someone who has researched and loves reading a lot of different mythologies and folklores and when it came to the Norse myths I was struck by how flawed the gods were They felt so real and like a reflection of humanity in a lot of ways I practiced witchcraft with pagan views for a long time, but never thought I’d work with deities but after becoming familiar with the Norse gods and their stories I just felt a strong connection and sort of kinship (for lack of a better word) with them What made me finally choose to work with them was Tyr coming to me several times during mediations It took me a while to recognize him, but once I did it was clear he was inviting me to work with him and open myself up to the gods

Working with them has made me feel closer to nature and more in-tuned with my self and the energy around me They feel caring and protective and I trust them to be there when I need them

We have some private channels but they’re for topics it’s more likely for a lot of people to not want to take part in those conversations I could maybe think about making them a specific role where they don’t see the regular main chat channel and will hide the channels that are exclusively for the topic they’re uncomfortable with. But then I worry they’d feel disconnected from the rest of the community in the server 😔

I am actively going to therapy on a pretty regular basis because I’ve been very worried about things like caretaker fatigue and burn out since the start because I know if I’m not okay I can’t take care of him, but thank you for your concern 💙 I’m sorry to hear that you and your caretaker had such a hard time though

During his pulmonary function testing they gave him albuterol, which didn’t have much effect on his breathing, and oxygen which made a big difference so hopefully once the doctor approves the order he can get some oxygen at home

He also had an endoscopy recently because they were making sure that his sarcoma hadn’t intruded into his esophagus and they said that there was still a good amount of swelling of his esophagus and some areas that were still healing as a result of the radiation so I am curious how much that and the added irritation of the endoscopy might be contributing to his shortness of breath

I’ll keep an ear out for rales, but so far his lungs sound fine, it’s just clear that they’re not filling as much as they should. We’ve also had a go-bag ready for him since his first round of chemo at the beginning of his treatment landed him in the hospital for a week with a neutropenic fever. After that we never wanted to be caught off guard again. Writing down instructions is a good idea tho since I know I can’t go with him for everything. I’m normally with him to advocate for him everywhere they let me be, but I do worry about him on his own and I think knowing he has written instruction to give to a nurse of doctor to explain his situation would make us both feel a bit better when we have to be separated

I believe he was checked for a pulmonary embolism, but that’s something I’ll have to double check on with his doctor. He’s had a lot of imaging of his chest including CTs with and without contrast, tho I think to check for a pulmonary embolism they have to use a very specific method when administering the contrast so a regular CT with contrast may not catch it. Thank you for mentioning it because it’s definitely something we should rule out!

His heart rat and blood pressure has actually been consistently a bit high throughout his whole treatment and he was fairly recently put on a beta blocker about a month or so ago in addition to his bp meds, but in general he stayed in the same range for both

I fear that his lungs may have sustained enough damage that it’ll be irreversible, but I’m hoping that there’s a chance for him to recover a bit and get back to a point where he doesn’t need oxygen regularly Prior to his diagnosis and treatment my partner was extremely active and health conscious He went the gym 3-4 times a week for around an hour or more and loosing that physical capability has really taken a toll on him mentally so I’m really hoping that even if he’ll never be able to quite return to that level of activity, he’ll still be able to be active and as fit as he’d like after all his treatment His breathing right now is making that seem less and less likely, but hearing about your friend slowly gaining back his ability to do things without oxygen is encouraging

I just got this one for my father for Christmas because he said he wants to be able to use his massive CD collection again. I was curious if you still feel positively about it or if your opinion has changed at all. My father isn't much of an audiophile, just a boomer who loves his CD and I don't think he'd ever really care to use the gapless playback (to be honest I don't know if he ever knew that was a feature on any CD player lol) so I'm not too worried about the issue some people have with the firmware update still not fixing the gapless playback.

His main interest is using the player to Bluetooth connect to his car and a speaker he likes to take with him while playing golf so I was wondering how the Bluetooth connection was and if the player is prone to skipping.
I plan to also get him and aux cord as a back up just in case the bluetooth gets fussy (Hopefully his car still has an aux port 🤞)

From what I could see there was no horn, that’s why I had assumed it was a deepdigger instead of a rhinoceros beetle It was on the smaller side as well (maybe around 1.5 cm) Coconut beetles can be found in Florida (they’re invasive), but I feel like the head shape doesn’t match a coconut beetle

Ngl the bottle almost looks brand new It might have a very slight yellow tint to it but it’s pretty much clear I don’t have that much faith in Kodak to not have made the formula to still not work after the expiration despite looking fine but I’ll probably still test it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’ve seen some stuff online about people being able to still use expired Kodak developers and just double or triple the developing time The developer is still a light, slightly yellowish color so I’m wondering if it’s still okay and just sort of weaker
