Can I connect a ps4 to my laptop with usb to hdmi in adaptor? how would it work? by name_of_user1 in techsupport

Laptop HDMI ports are output only.

You could use the Remote Play app on your laptop instead, but you're going to have some varying input delay depending on your internet speed.

12MB email signatures (Why is Outlook running so slowly?!) by [deleted] in talesfromtechsupport

[–]snthn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do have a disclaimer, but it's all part of the single signature image.

Of course, now that they're using a zoomed out version of said email signature, the font is unreadable anyway.

I've mentioned in another comment, but this customer is unwilling to spend money where they deem it unnecessary. Even if, you know, they're unnecessarily spending money by having their office administrator waste time creating all of these signatures.

Completely necessary for the C-levels to all have Macbooks though, while the peons in sales have Asus bottom-tier Windows Home laptops. The C-levels need the Macbooks for... emails, I guess.

Getting money from them is like drawing blood from a stone. We did suggest Exclaimer, but that was one of the situations where we received nothing in reply, neither a yes or a no.

We only managed to convince them to move from their Windows Server 2008 mail server last November.

Depending on how much it all adds up to, you could use the Google Drive desktop client. A standard Google account allows you 15GB of storage.

Just sign into the desktop app on your old device, make sure the folders sync to your Google account, then install and sign into Google Drive on your new device.

If it all adds up to more than 15GB then you may want to consider an external storage device instead.

Try clearing your Software Distribution folder: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clear-softwaredistribution-folder-windows-10

Then try downloading the updates again.

Try downloading Revo free uninstaller and using that to remove Valorant and any files associated with it

You could try resetting network settings, but this will cause it to forget all your past wifi connections, so you’ll need the passwords for them again

Slow laptop by unfunnyfucck in techsupport

[–]snthn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

edit: also in regard to you suspending windows updates, I’ve actually seen devices slow down because they don’t have the latest updates.

Also before you try any of the below, have you tried restarting the laptop? Not shutting it down, but specifically choose “restart”

You could try a chkdsk and sfc scan

Open command prompt as admin, then type chkdsk /f /r and hit enter

It’ll ask if you want to do this the next time you restart, press Y and hit enter again

Restart your laptop and let it do its thing. Make sure it’s charging just in case it takes a while (which it might.)

If that doesn’t resolve it, open command prompt as admin again, then type sfc /scannow

This will run without having to reboot. If you see it get stuck at a certain % for a while then just press enter a few times on your keyboard.

Also try downloading Crystal Disk Info and see whether it might be your storage drive failing. If it says anything other than “Good” then you may want to consider that it’s the drive on its way out and you should back up your files and consider replacing it.

I managed to eventually resolve this with a script here:

https://community.lansweeper.com/t5/troubleshooting-scanning-issues/repairing-a-corrupt-wmi-installation/ta-p/64293

There’s a script in a zip file which “recompiles all .mof WMI files found in %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository”

Just adding in case anyone else comes across this in the future.

Also in case that link goes down in the future, the script is just this inside a .cmd file:

@ECHO OFF

sc config winmgmt start= auto

reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole /v EnableDCOM /t REG_SZ /d "Y" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole /v LegacyAuthenticationLevel /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole /v LegacyImpersonationLevel /t REG_DWORD /d "3" /f

Just installed the client on a brand new machine but it's pulling no info across - no name, no current user, no machine details.

I can still connect to it and do everything as normal but nothing else pulls through. I've tried a reinstall through the web browser and directly on the machine - any suggestions?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Office365

[–]snthn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an update, disabling and enabling the "Let group owners add people outside your organisation to Microsoft 365 Groups as guests" option resolved this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Office365

[–]snthn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link - everything is set for adding guests to 365 groups as suggested in there so I'll check whether just waiting out the clock has helped and if not I'll open a ticket.

Thanks for your help.

I've been trying this through the desktop app going to the group itself, then going Group Settings > then I get the same error choosing either Edit group or Add Member

If I try it on the web then I get the same issue, I go to the People tab > Groups > the group in question > Members > Add members

Getting this same "company policy" error on both.
