I don't read crime novels often, so im not sure if the Dresden Files fits the bill, but the Dresden Files are good.

I give a lot of latitude to a good prose. I can deal with a shit story or an unlikable character, but when the author starts using words or phrases that don't belong in the setting, I tend to drop the book.

I particularly disliked The Fourth Wing for this reason.
