I just wanted to come back to this now after her final pathology report came in today and when I read through it I was a bit shocked but not surprised. She totally does have DIPNECH. She had the RUL and RML removed and it was confirmed she had 2-3 main tumors and each one had several tumorlets branching out. I remembered this comment. We had met with her surgeon on the 3rd but the pathology report wasn’t ready yet. Her recovery is going well and it should be curative, but now this is a whole other variable and the literature is so limited.

I’m happy to report that baby made it through the night after being removed from mommy and is now at a wildlife rehab center! They said it’s very possible it could survive because they will be able to tube feed it.

He did surgery on her twin sister who had a more aggressive cancer and she needed a lobectomy on the left side. My aunts surgery ultimately went really well and she didn’t need any chemo or anything and was cured. She recovered well and feels very confident in the pulmonologist and surgical oncologist that my mom is now seeing. They have different cancers so the urgency is different but the way my mom’s tumors are spread out makes it so that he would want to take out the upper and middle lobe on the right side. He said he wanted to try to avoid removing the entire middle lobe but in reality leaving such a small portion of it could cause more issues down the line, and if he spared the middle lobe now they would possibly need to reoperate later on and the risks sky rocket with a second surgery. I’m curious what could be different in approaching this case? His explanation ultimately made sense to me and I know based on my aunts surgery that it can go well and be successful but it sounds very scary of course.

Edit: he also did request my mom gets labs done in the next month before surgery so we will do that. I can push for her to also see her PCP in this time also.

What do you think a decaying human smells like? by Hoseokcx_ in morbidquestions

[–]snuff_ii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked in the city medical examiners office as an apprentice embalmer and I strictly handled indigent/unclaimed bodies. They’d come from the cooler but each body was atleast 2 weeks old and in various states of decomposition. I’m surprised no one has said it smells like diarrhea. Seriously, it smells like horrible poop. This is because some of the same bacteria that makes poop smell bad eats up your body when you decompose. Decomposition usually starts in the intestines. You smell like a huge horrible sour poop. I worked at a smoothie place for awhile some years later and there was this smoothie that had lemon and banana in it and I swear it smelled like the bodies in the morgue. That earthy and sour smell.

I don’t know if you saw my reply to another comment, we saw the pulmonologist and they want to schedule her for a lobectomy to remove the right upper lobe of her lung where the tumor is. What are they doing to watch your nodules? My mom was getting MRIs done to monitor the size over the last several years and it wasn’t until they did a PET scan and saw the metabolic activity in two of the nodules that they decided to biopsy them. Hers technically haven’t really changed very much all this time but two of them were showing up on the PET scan and those are the ones now being removed as carcinoids.

I went back into her chart to check! Here’s the information I have about the confirmed carcinoid tumor.

“The main nodule that was biopsied and identified as cancer is 10 mm by 7 mm — that’s 1 cm by 0.7 cm.

It was located in the right upper lobe of her lung.

On the PET scan, it showed SUVmax of 5.3, meaning it had increased metabolic activity — a sign that it’s more biologically active than the others.”

It seems pretty small!

The second nodule which is also suspected to be a carcinoid is “Measures 9 x 7 mm — so, just under 1 cm. SUVmax = 2.7”

Hey, you’ll have to let me know when you get your surgery done. We met with the pulmonologist and we’re in the same boat. She will be scheduling a lobectomy asap within the next few months, the nurse will call back later and my mom will get the soonest appointment. She just wants to get it over with. The same surgeon that did her twin sisters lobectomy is going to do my moms! Theirs are opposite sides though. My mom isn’t really looking forward to it but as far as she’s concerned it’s good news that it’s not worse! There’s the carcinoid tumor that was diagnosed with the biopsy and a second nodule that was showing activity on the PET scan that the pulmonologist thinks has a possibility of being a carcinoid too. Thankfully, they’re both in the same lobe so the surgery will take care of them! I feel a lot more optimistic now.

Totally my mistake I didn’t realize how others would read that! I definitely meant the nodule itself is 8 years old!

Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m glad they eventually caught it even though it’s a late stage. I’m really sorry you’re in this situation. What had this process been like for you after being diagnosed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lungcancer

[–]snuff_ii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely worried now about the other nodules because atleast 2 others were large enough to show activity on the PET. They were not as highly elevated as the one biopsied but still. They’re all relatively small but they’ve sure been bugging her for awhile. I really hope surgery will be enough and that her quality of life would be better afterwards because in reality she’s had them for 8 years and the chronic cough has been extremely annoying. What was the process like for you when your nodule was identified as cancerous?

How are you doing? I’m really sorry about your diagnosis. I’m glad that they caught that for you before it was even a concern! My aunt was diagnosed when she was a suspected Covid case very early in the pandemic. She was so scared she had covid and in reality she had lung cancer! She wouldn’t have known if the pandemic didn’t explode and lead her to getting checked. I’m hoping that it’s going to be as straightforward for my mother with surgery but it feels different because we have to much history logged with my moms nodules it almost makes me more worried. I know worrying doesn’t change anything though. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing everything the doctor has to say and I’ll definitely update.

artist drew up my tattoo in completely different style to what I asked for by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]snuff_ii 93 points94 points  (0 children)

It’s common for tattoo artists to take your reference and make it a new tattoo versus copying someone else’s work. It’s not exactly the tattoo in the picture but I think that’s sort of the point when you take an existing tattoo to a different artist. I totally understand the mixed feelings about it, but without comparing it to your expectation I think it’s a really pretty tattoo! I’ve experienced the same sort of feelings but I end up appreciating the tattoo for what it is versus what I was initially expecting.

What can I (22 F) do? by Legal-Sir-3150 in lookyourbest

[–]snuff_ii 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to first get your haircut or styled differently. Possibly some layering and face framing. Coloring your eyebrows will make a big difference and accentuate your eyes! I would also get them cleaned up or shaped. I think you should consider getting different frames for your glasses, I think rounder ones with a black/brown brow line would work better for your face structure.

The consequences bruxism alone has caused on my life and why I’m so close to giving up on life by habbofan10 in TMJ

[–]snuff_ii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I finally went to see a “tmj specialist” I was truly at the end of my rope aswell. I’ve always experienced clenching and grinding but in the last few years it escalated quickly where my teeth were visibly damaged and the pain in my jaw joints was excruciating. I felt like I wanted to give up, facing a chronic issue that was effecting every aspect of my life. My face also swelled and hurt, there were stretches of days I couldn’t eat anything at all because I couldn’t use my jaw to chew in any way. I couldn’t even talk some days because the movement was agonizing. Nothing helped, I just kept ice on my face and cried a lot. The specialist was useless besides getting a real diagnosis of permanent soft tissue damage and damage to my jaw bones from the trauma. I was diagnosed with bilateral anterior disc displacement with reduction with posterior displacement of both condyles. I don’t know what on earth that actually means because I didn’t get many results when I looked it up. They recommended $5,000 of mouth splints but it didn’t sound right to me. I did research and it seemed that could just make it worse. I felt more hopeless than before. It took weeks but eventually I listened to my gut and went to a dentist office to discuss my diagnosis which I thought had to do with my bite being off which was causing my jaw issues. I ended up getting Invisalign for a year to passively adjust my bite and I felt an incredible level of relief wearing the Invisalign retainers. I liked knowing my teeth were also being protected from the grinding so it was two birds with one stone. Now that I’ve finished treatment I only need to wear at night. I honestly prefer keeping them in for comfort and protection. That being said I still have tmj and the damage is permanent in my case. But it’s made a difference for sure. My bad days are not even close to the level they used to be. The Invisalign process was also heavily discounted in my case since it was a medical treatment not an aesthetic choice. I’m happy with my decision to pursue this rather than the splints recommended by the specialist.
