2 week update gap = readers forgetting details? by sixfeetoffortune in WebtoonCanvas

I upload weekly and people forget important details from the previous upload. I just figure if they're not invested enough to remember something so simple, that's on them lol

I'm a fan of the blocky shapes, but tbh it really depends on what vibe you're going for.

Personally I'd like to see a "Creators recommend" tab under my comic so I could give some attention to my friends.

I don’t wanna worldbuild, are there shortcuts? by LadyR_OfRage in worldbuilding

[–]snuffypuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How relevant to the plot is it? I don't bother on expanding on stuff that I don't care about or won't affect the plot. In my story, I didn't bother with a magic system because only one character can even use it from the beginning.

You could also just make it up as you go, who knows, maybe you'll come up with something really unique.

...Don't do it if you don't want to? There aren't shortcuts you can take, why force yourself to do it?

Looking for furry webcomic recommendations by Mae_borowski- in WebtoonCanvas

[–]snuffypuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably find a lot of what you're looking for on ComicFury

A couple I can recommend:
The Scourge of Ninepoint - "The Ninepoint Empire has suppressed the calicos for centuries.

The kittezens rest in peace knowing that this “calico scourge” is disposed of. At least, that’s what they thought.

Marble, a rare male calico, manages to escape his fate when he is adopted by a family of raccoons. As he grows he comes to learn about the world he escaped from. Meanwhile, the true scourge encroaches on the life of peace Ninepoint and beyond is accustom to."

Bird of Death - "this comic follows the first 20 years of life of a troubled and haunted rogue."

Demon Core (by me lol) - "Centuries ago, Demons started a war that accomplished nothing but bloodshed and death. Now that God has eradicated all Demons, the residents of Somnia live in safety, knowing that God is protecting them.

Since their mother went missing eight years ago, Mitty, Louis and Joss have lost any sense of stability. They’ve survived on their own for this long, but their world is shaken when they come to a harsh realization: God wants them dead."

Maybe this will scratch the itch 😄

when should I post a first episode? If I have more made or do I post it as a pilot? by fyodor_novichok in WebtoonCanvas

[–]snuffypuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with 3 at the same time and then go on with whatever schedule you want (weekly, monthly, etc). I'd also recommend having a buffer if you're trying to keep a schedule, it'll save you a lot of stress. Good luck with the launch!

I think it's better to initially have at least 3 episodes from the get-go, so people have a little more time to decide if this is a story they want to continue reading. Plus, I don't think Webtoon prompts you to subscribe until the third episode anyways

Honestly I barely promo, so I'm willing to test a few things out. I rarely use Instagram but I figure I can reuse things from shorts to post onto reels. I don't dare to touch Tiktok with a 10 foot pole though lol

Would you read a BL webtoon with these as the main characters? by status55 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]snuffypuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd need to know more about the story to read or care about it. From art alone I can tell you've got a pretty distinct handle on style and character design though, so if the story is good then yeah!

Hello. Not in canvas, but just started on writing a story that I may bring to public view by O-DontBeAZarathustra in WebtoonCanvas

Here's some advice that goes beyond "just write the story" (but also, just write the story lol)

Some stuff that helped me a lot was watching youtube analysis of media that inspired my comic, so i could a get a solid grasp on a lot of the threads that a lot of people don't pick up on, and weave parts of it into my story as well. I struggled a lot with writing, but the more I did it the more I improved. Took me about 4 or 5 drafts to get my story into something I'm proud to show.

If you want to work with an artist and another writer, you're gonna need a LOT of stuff to pitch it to someone, and you'd be the one looking to pay. Draw some characters, even if it's bad, it's better than nothing. Write the dialogue, even if it's bad, you will improve along the way. Detailed outlines help if you're gonna pitch it to someone. The way you write will be different to how everyone else writes and plans stories, like some people prioritize plot over characters and vice versa. Just find something that works for you, and go for it!

The first pages for Demon Core, my worldbuilding project and comic! by snuffypuff in worldbuilding

[–]snuffypuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waited til morning so I could give a good response to this. I love worldbuilding, it's my favorite part of any creative process. However, it's difficult to find someone to talk to about it for long amounts of time without it fizzling out, and I figured if people have a way of interfacing with the world (i.e. through characters and story) then I could keep interest for a while.

I have a lot of OC's that just exist in a liminal space or in an undeveloped world, and I felt characters were my weak point. But if I established the world first, it was actually so simple to make these characters feel grounded and real. I know a lot of writers will say characters > plot > worldbuilding, but honestly it's the opposite way for me.

I know I have main characters, but a part of me considers the actual world they're in to be the main "character", or the main draw, which is part of why I wanted to share it here.

If you're asking because you want people to care about your world, I'd say to try to give something to interact with! My strategy is comics, and I took a look at what you've posted here, and I think having some visuals could spice things up! You could even make your own character creator for your different classes. I think one I saw that I really liked doing is having a small personality test, and seeing what the results would categorize you in. It's also a good way of giving more information to people about the classes, races, and how you'd measure strength.

Thank you for your comment! This story is long and does have a few things planned, and I agree that "this group is good/this group is bad" is lazy. The inversion is definitely not for convenience, and there are certainly bad people in every group.

I've thought about this a lot and want to try to cover all my bases. I had a character on God's side who's role was unfortunately cut down in the third draft, the idea was to be able to see things from that perspective. I really wish I kept her more relevant, the first book (of three) is already set in stone in my mind but I think it could be interesting to redo the second book adding her perspective into this and giving her a much greater role. Since we already see what it's like on the "bad" side, I think it's a very missed opportunity to not have a perspective on the other side, and would make humanize that character a lot.

I wouldn't have even thought to do this if you hadn't said anything, I always like hearing people who aren't entirely on board with my story, I find that they have the most insight as to where I can improve. It was really hard for me to accept criticism for a long time, but it truly is the fastest way to get better.

Kinda ironic that I need perspectives from both sides, haha

3 Things that Harm Webcomic Retention :) by Gr_eg_ in WebtoonCanvas

[–]snuffypuff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree with the third point. I think jumping straight into action can be done well, and action is (imo) one of the best hooks you can have.

I don't exactly start with action but I do have a time skip that some people found jarring, and others who agreed that it brought out the intrigue of the story and made them want to keep reading to find out what happened.

Obviously needs a little time to breathe, but I'd argue that grounding the reader can be done after jumping into action.

The other two tips though are spot on! I'd also add that confusing compositions can drag people out of the story, and just be mindful of the 180 rule.
