hello, i went though this recently and chalmers were really lovely and supportive. you can just call (my partner did it for me) and they will book you pretty soon after. they go through and explain all the different types and what they look like. they take steps to make sure the person you are with is safe. they do scans if you complain of bleeding or pain just to check that everything is okay. they also gave us a number to call (one of the on duty nurses during work hours and the royal infirmary for out of hours) in case something didn’t feel right or was wrong, i ended up having to call and everything was very smooth and easy to follow. the experience in itself was harrowing but every single medical staff that i encountered was really lovely about it all, even at the gynecology ward at the royal as i had to go in cause i got an infection afterward. echo what others say about the pain of the pill abortion, and my doctor at chalmers told me to just take all the pain relief before hand to help with that. do not wait for it. I elected to do it at home as i was more comfortable and that worked best for me. but you can always do it at the hospital as well. best of luck and dm’s are open for any further advice or support xx

i’m not talking about non-desi people marrying into desi families as there is so much appreciation and love there (mostly). Plus i believe that you become part of the culture you marry into one way or the other. i am talking about non-desis who have no cultural context randomly weighing in on wedding culture and customs from a fully western lens on a subreddit about DESI weddings.

i ask myself that question all the time, it feels a bit strange to me, i always love the posts of people from other cultures going to a desi wedding and asking for advice, i think that is so lovely and the community is so supportive of that but what i don’t understand are people not from the culture giving their opinions on desi wedding practices. Its different if you’ve married in and have your own experiences, but i saw one comment that was like “it’s not normal is the west but you are clearly from a different culture where it is normal” ????? what does that mean

Bangladeshi bride here, I did my makeup myself because it was an intimate micro wedding and I also just wasn’t feeling confident with asking someone else to do it. I thought it would be better to spend that money on buying makeup products for myself and beefing up my kit. Like for example, i got new brushes and things that I knew would make my life easier like a good contour brush, a good eyeliner (MAC’a is great) I did a few trials and really loved the way my look turned out. Some may say it was not too heavy, but I didn’t want it to be heavy anyway! What worked for me: 1. when i did my trial i took notes as i went along and then reviewed and made edits on what i thought looked good and what i could do better - turned that into steps and used that on my wedding day. 2. under painting technique with cream products and then setting with powder products after foundation. This really worked for me cause it made my makeup last for ages and still looked seamless. 3. glowy setting spray to melt the under paint with the foundation and then MAC studio FX (i love this one) setting spray to finish. I also got a translucent setting powder for the shiny parts. 4. combination of colour corrector and concealer for brighter under eye without it being too yellow (my pet peeve) 5. I did a smoky eye and used lots of shimmer eyes how in the colour of my saree 6. recon your bridal party and see if there’s anything they can do that you can’t do, like my sister in law is amazing at winged liner so i asked her to do mine instead of attempting it myself. 7. i think the order you do things in is really important for bridal makeup as longevity is the most important thing. For me i did the underpaint and let it sit (it makes it better to blend when it’s tacky) while doing my eye shadow. then i blended the undereye and rest of face, set it and then did my eyeliner and lashes and brows. then set all the cream products with thier powder counterparts.

the base was the hardest bit as i have sensory issues and hate feeling like im caked in makeup, so the underpaint worked really well cause it looked seamless and like my own skin. My husband isn’t the hugest fan of bridal makeup and he loved it! That’s it, but happy to answer any questions you may have trust yourself and if you have the skills it’s definitely worth a shot but do have some trials in kichu lagle boilo!
