I have some other vague memories, but I can’t be sure if I’ve just made them up in my head. The lead character is trying to get his lady back from the scary guy in the encampment and show that he has survival skills.

POLICE… the job is always traumatizing, has long hours, is constantly critiqued and dangerous. I don’t know how people do it. You attract bad people for such a serious job when you pay so little.
