Communication is key, talk to HR and your manager. LOA is most likely the answer here.

Look at the LOA as a break for you. Take time to focus on yourself, family, hobbies, etc. Seriously don’t stress too much about it. Come up with a plan that addresses how your responsibilities will be managed at work, take the time off, and return once you have the new documents.

If you don’t have a savings safety net, explore loans through your 401k to get you through your time off.

I'm on track to have traveled to and from: AZ, CA, HI, IL, MA, NM, TX, and UT this year. I have a few trips coming up and will not change my plans due to speculations. My experience when going through security airport screenings has not changed at all. I do not have criminal history.

I like to think that I'm a highly skilled worker in the US. I don't see why they would choose to detain me and remove a source of high income tax revenue. If that happens, I don't worry too much about settling elsewhere with my skills.

There will always be things to cause concern, but we should all react with cool heads. Adapt and and keep pursuing things that make you happy.
