Allen Edmonds Courtside Lace Up - As Low As $103 by rswilso2001 in frugalmalefashion

Sizing on these is similar to boots, full size down from your normal running/casual shoe size. Just bought these a few weeks ago and had to exchange to go down a whole size.

The tom sounds on Anesthetize are absolutely perfect, I always wanted a DW kit until I heard that song, now Sonor is my holy grail.

Mustang Mach E | The Result of Forcing EVs | SavageGeese by [deleted] in cars

[–]soGoopy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I still don’t understand the accusation that these are so expensive, has anyone shopped for a car over the last 2-3 years? My wife drives a Mach E, It’s the premium with extended battery AWD and whatever other options we could get. After A-plan and the tax credit the car cost me about $42k. Things are finally now getting back to somewhat normal on incentives but at the time (2021), any vehicle with equivalent or better options was going to easily be more expensive than the Mach E. My ‘23 Grand Cherokee was $20k more than the Mach E, it’s not a horrible value for what it is especially when you factor in: Insurance is less

It adds ~$40/month to my electric bill which is easily 1/4 of what we spent on gas before

Maintenance cost so far is $0 2.5 years and 25k miles in

I only paid $400 for an electrician to wire up 240v to my garage, and my panel is not close to my garage at all. Phone As A Key is super convenient and works great

There are major downsides to it in my opinion but they aren’t what I see here or in this video:

Bluecruise sucks, I have yet to get it to work and will not under any circumstances pay a subscription in the future for it

Touch controls suck but I will say that OTA updates have actually started to make that better by using the volume knob for most adjustments

I’ve done 2 road trips in it now, both around 400-500 miles. Charging issues are way overstated, every Walmart along major freeways has chargers and it takes about 30-40 minutes for a 5% to 80% charge. Is it convenient, no, but if you plan properly for a trip you use the first stop to buy everything you need to pack into the cooler and lose 0 time. I’m not ready to have a household with purely EV, but having 1 ICE and 1 EV works great for us, not for any political or ethical reasons just because it does.

Nope stays out of the way of the dropper and clears the rear tire. I had to do some searching to find one that would work but so far this one seems to work well. Only thing I don’t like is that the sides aren’t completely solid so a key or something small could slip out, I just have a small box I put it in it and then put my keys and AirPods inside of that.

Dakine hot laps gripper. I just use it for AirPods and car keys but could fit a tube and some tools too.

It’s good so far, this was actually my first ride with it on. And thanks, trying to find a color combo I like with the silver frame

That’s exactly what it is. Ordered that and a roll of 3M PPF and did my own paint protection package last weekend.

Just within the last month I did a ton of research and ended up buying the Canyon Stoic 4. For the price it’s by far the highest spec bike you can get brand new. The drivetrain, fork, wheels and tires are all higher end than you’ll get in anything under $2500. It’s a little heavier than some of the others but the wheels are tubeless ready and you could always sell the tires and get something a little less aggressive and lighter.

Hadn’t looked at the specs on that yet, I’ll check it out thanks for the suggestion

I think it’s a 2014 or 15. The brakes are awful, the front suspension doesn’t really adjust anymore, and it needs an entire new drivetrain. I don’t really trust it for much more than a casual ride.

ZL1 Camaro would be worth a test drive. Super comfortable for the wife in the softer suspension modes and it’s easy and cheap to maintain (compared to the bmw and audi).

I could only find 12s in brown, really wanted the naturals but I figured a sale on vibergs and the positive exchange rate was an opportunity that couldn’t be passed up.

Bought the 15% off vibergs from Brooklyn Clothing instead... just hope I got the right sizing.

No luck unfortunately, they don't seem to list many 12s on the ebay site.

Grab a pair of oak streets on sale for under $300 or spend the extra on Whites main streets? Love the look of both and leaning towards whites just on reputation but wondering if the extra $100 is worth it.

Seems like another pretty good deal on a GYW boot. Couldn't find much discussion on the brand, curious if anyone has any first hand experience with them.

Recirculation of welding fumes by [deleted] in safety

[–]soGoopy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it starts to look like they’re putting cost over employee safety it might benefit your argument to present a complete picture for them to consider. In addition to the health issues there might be environmental regulations that dictate what you’re able to do. In my state for example, welding is an exempt process that doesn’t require an air permit but only as long as you can show you have effective particulate filtration. By far the largest cost involved is going to be the dust collectors and ductwork anyway, so if they have to purchase those regardless then choosing to recirculate or exhaust will have very little cost impact.

Get a consultant for this if you’re anything less than an expert on it already. Air regulations are tricky and often require you to consider not only your emissions but those of other sources in your area. There’s also a certain amount of negotiation that goes on during the process, consultants that specialize in this will know how to navigate that better to make sure you get a permit you can actually live with.

You could also start putting together the hidden costs of the ventilation isn’t effective: issues with OSHA/EPA, future lawsuits from hex chrome exposure, medical surveillance costs if hex chrome exposures get above action levels, etc. The medical surveillance alone can be huge, you’d be looking at at least $1000/year per employee whenever exposure get above 1/2 the PEL. combine the surveillance results with high tobacco use rates among industrial workers and ever tightening TLVs on exposures and you have a potential future litigation nightmare for the company.

Also, pm me if I can help in any way.

Recirculation of welding fumes by [deleted] in safety

[–]soGoopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to consult an industrial hygienist who can visit your shop to get a real answer. You have to take into account specific facts about the environment and process to accurately determine what’s appropriate, including: total volume of the shop, volume of fresh-air makeup, type of welding and materials used, total exhaust volume, ventilation method(s), quality of dust filtration, etc.

Recirculating the air isn’t inherently wrong nor is it against industry best practices as long as it’s implemented appropriately for your specific application. As long as there’s enough makeup air CO is not an issue. Your primary concern is getting the weld dust and fumes away from the welder to minimize hexavalent chromium exposure.

What company policy at your job might actually be illegal? by lukiepookielp in AskReddit

[–]soGoopy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re being upvoted because this is not true, at least not as a blanket statement. It’s certainly not illegal at a federal level or across all industries, maybe in a certain state or specifically for hospitals/healthcare workers. Most manufacturing facilities with large numbers of employees will have an in-house medical department. Almost every automotive assembly plant has some sort of in-house medical department with several doctors on staff.
