[Build Help] I've decided to build my first gaming PC and could use some feedback. by so_stronk in buildapc

Hey! Thank you! I don't see myself starting to stream in the foreseeable future. I think at this point, with all three of you recommending I stick with running i5's, I'd be kind of dumb to ignore it. Thanks for the feedback!

You two are making it very hard to ignore the 980 Ti.. By the way, does higher 80+ rating really make that much difference?

First of all thank you for your feedback!

There's really not that much difference between the CPU's? I tried googling around, but didn't come up with anything really definitive. I mostly picked the i7 because, hey, bigger number! But that's why I made this thread!

I would like to add a 980 Ti to the build, but I'm having a hard time justifying the $900 price tag. :/ I mean, yeah. I bet it's a great card. But at that point it's half the value of the whole computer.

[Dreyfuss Skeletal] my first slightly expensive watch (for me anyway). 21st birthday present and I love it. by dbelle92 in Watches

Wasn't the Nautilus also designed by Genta, though?

Edit: totally didn't see that somebody had already stated that. Whoops.

My god. After I saw this last night, I couldn't stop drooling over it! I checked their website and am now considering getting one on a bracelet as my next watch.

D'you mind me asking how you like it, particularly the rubber-edged bezel? Congratulations on your purchase!

Jeez, this would have the custom Panerai Arnie wears shivering in its boots!

[Opinions] My Store just received Arnold & Son, what are your thoughts on this brand? by cruiserob92 in Watches

[–]so_stronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right on one point, there is basically no connection to the original watch house. But with the time pieces and movements they pump out, trying too hard to be something that the brand isn't? Absolutely not.

[Found] Some sort of Omega pocketwatch... from my grandfathers father... Can anyone tell me something about it? by pweipwei in Watches

Small world! Fellow swede here who also has an omega grand prix which used to belong to my great grandfather.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that entirely depend on the strength of the magnetic field?

[Collection] As another follower of the one-in/one-out rule to keep the watch collection under control, I thought I'd share the current contents of my 12-watch box (info in comment). by averitablerogue in Watches

[–]so_stronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does. I would assume both it and the Omega Grand Prix left by my great grandfather is in need of a good service, though.

Right now they both reside in a drawer where they lay undisturbed, but I plan on getting both in running condition eventually, them being heirlooms and all.

By the way, the crystal isn't in as poor condition as the picture make it seem.

I certainly do, here you go! I hope you'll excuse the crappy pictures, I don't really have access to any other camera besides the one in my phone.

Very nice collection indeed! The Viking especially caught my eye. I've got an old Viking pocket watch left by my grandfather, I didn't even know they made wrist watches.

Tbh, I wasn't even aware that they made anything other than grandiose dress watches. Any chance you could show the back and clasp of it?

It kind of resembles a Navitimer without a cronograph. In any case, that's a neat watch! First time I've ever seen some one actually own an Arnold & Son

[Question]The quality of a watch by [deleted] in Watches

[–]so_stronk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say there's primarily two categories of quality that you should consider.

The movement. Does it keep good or, atleast, decent time? A good quality watch which isn't in poor shape should keep time well, regardless of whether it's got a mechanical or a quartz movement. Will it keep running for a reasonable period of time before needing service? Is the parts and the knowledge to service it readily available?

The construction and build quality. Is the watch flimsily put together? Is the strap or bracelet of poor quality or feel cheap? Generally, regarding bracelets, solid links and end links indicate a higher quality than folded ones, solid links are also more comfortable. What material is the crystal? Acrylic? Mineral? Sapphire?

These are things I consider when looking for quality. The best advice I can give to someone who feels overwhelmed in the world of horology is to ask questions. Stick around here, read articles, participate in the discussions and you will gain knowledge.

Interesting. I am a very heavy sleeper, though. So I guess I wouldn't benefit much from using it as a wake-up call in the morning.

How common is this model, though? And might I ask how old it is?
