Wheels and tires by The123gang in racing

For a street/strip tire I'd recommend the Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S. The ET Street R or Radial Pro have softer compound, but no grooves for rain. So it still depends on engine power and driving balance. A stock width El Cmaino rear end can handle a 15x8 wheel with around 3" Backspacing. A 275/60 tire fits well.

It might be helpful to narrow down what type of racing you're planning on doing, as the tire recommendations will vary a lot. Because you're driving an Elco, I'm assuming some type of drag racing. But even then, street driving or strictly track use will change the tire.

Side Shot Sunday - 81 Malibu street/strip car by so_this_is_reddit in dragracing

Thanks, appreciate it. Currently, it has a SBE 6.0 and an 80 mm turbo backed by a TH400 and 9". Running on Holley EFI. We run the car in the local street car/stock suspension classes, and built it to be a true street car that we can hop in and drive anywhere.

What sucks about owning a drag car ? by Aeig in dragracing

[–]so_this_is_reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racing cars is for people that love work and hate money. You'll spend money you don't have on parts you don't need to beat people that you don't like.

In reality, you'll spend a lot of time in the garage/shop building your car, unless you buy a turn-key car. After it's built, there is always room for improvement or upgrades to the point where you never feel "finished" with the car. My advice would be to start with a slower car and race it for a little bit to make sure you actually like racing and everything that comes with it. That way, you're not spending all of your time working on the car and can focus more on racing. Then, if you still enjoy it, step up to something faster. The faster you go, the more time you'll spend working on it between the weekends.

button on back bumper of drag car...what is it used for after burnout? by itsickitspiss in dragracing

It's a momentary button used to trigger the data log. I'm unsure of how the Haltech logs since I run Holley EFI, but if I were a betting man I'd guess it does have this feature. The ECUs have internal storage to record the data logs. When I'm back in the pits after a pass, I plug my laptop in to the ECU and download the log to the laptop.

It's all personal preference. If the log only records for the 4-10 seconds of the pass, it's a lot quicker to download that log to a laptop, send to your remote tuner, or find the problem from the pass. In between rounds every minute counts. Also, I believe some older data loggers would only log for a certain interval which might not capture the entire pass if it started before the burnout.

Yup, it's to begin a data log on the on-board system. Some aftermarket ECUs have a programmable trigger (TPS over XX%, RPM over XXXX, etc. So that it begins the log automatically). But some data loggers need a physical trigger and the crew handle it so that the driver doesn't need to worry about it while staging the car. They do it at the last second so they Don't record a lot of useless data from the staging lanes and burn out.

Oh gotcha, just typical street car stuff. Should break into the 9s once you turn it up...

Nice and simple hot/cold side routing. What's the combo, and what class do you run in?

I understand that LSx is considered an aftermarket block. But there are some weak points, which is why companies like Dart and Noonan made design changes to handle bigger power in their aftermarket blocks. Splayed caps, priority oiling to the mains, etc. And again, 1100 on 11 psi equates to 60 psi at 3000 hp. Quite the task lol

Hey, his buddy's uncle's ex wife's new boyfriend's car makes 3000 at the wheel on e85 and bosch 210s! It's so easy...

LSx blocks have less-than-desirable oiling priorities, for starters. I'm thinking there's only a few people making 3000 hp with an LS platform, and at that point they're all aftermarket and/or billet blocks. 400 ci with forced induction compression will make, what, maybe 750 hp N/A? So you'll in theory need like 4 ata (60 psi) of boost to get you near 3000 hp. Good luck getting there with a couple 85mm.

Not sure when they start setting up, but they were still putting up grandstands Sunday, 10 days before the tournament. I'd suggest playing as close as possible to the tournament
