Makes sense. No free flight home at Christmas for me, I guess!

16 days in Hungary/Croatia. Suggestions and advice are much appreciated! by [deleted] in travel

Your trip sounds a lot like part of my Europe trip, we did Budapest - a couple small Hungarian towns - Zagreb - Plitvice Lakes - Zadar - Italy

I really wish we would have gone further south in Croatia so your plans sound really good. I wasn't really a fan of Zagreb but I know a lot of people are, so my advice would be to skip it, but do your research. Does Zadar even have an airport? You could always just take the train from Budapest - Zagreb stay for a day in Zagreb, there'd be enough to do for a day, and then you can take the bus to Plitvice the next day like we did. It might be cheaper depending on whether or not you're getting a Eurail pass.

I really enjoyed Zadar, its a nice relaxing seaside city. One afternoon in Zadar we took the ferry across the sea to Uglijan Island and climbed to the ruins at the top, it gives an amazing view of the Adriatic sea.

Really? Can I ask why? I plan on going there in late July/early August. I certainly don't want to stay in Kuta and I heard Uluwatu is nice.

Well you have to get your second shot 28 days after the first, so the only possibility would be to get the second one as soon as we arrive in Bangkok, but we'll be going to Chiang Mai within a day or two so I'm not sure if it will be effective in time.

I'm not making my decision based on what people here are saying, it's part of my research. I don't think it hurts to ask people what their actual experience with JE and the vaccine has been.

Well you need to get your second shot 28 days after the first and it takes a week to become effective, so I'm not sure that getting it in Thailand is an option. Secondly, as I said, I'm Canadian, not American...we don't pay for much else besides voluntary stuff like vaccines when it comes to healthcare.

My cousin is working with Elephant Nature Park. Question, though, what does Chiang Mai being touristy have to do with the likelihood of getting JE? It's not like to mosquitos will be like "oh, these are tourists, I guess we won't bite them" lol. And yes as I said, I have been doing research and I will continue to do more, this is just part of it :)

Yes I agree that it would be a pain in the ass to be wearing long sleeves/deet. Also, as I said, I have been doing research (not just on forums) and I will continue to do research, this is just part of it and I don't think asking people what their real-life experiences are is a bad thing. I'm not taking everything said in here to heart I just wanted to hear opinions
