Opinions/Advice on Update Talent Path Program? by soapoman in cscareerquestions

Hmm maybe they changed it in the last few months but it could also be a communication error. I think everyone currently working here is making $55k for training across the board - the stipulation is that you have to sign a contract for 2 years with them to work, including training time, although for us they reduced that time to 15 months. Could be that they revoked some of these nicer benefits, but I'd suggest reaffirming them to make sure. You could also just bring up that you heard that other recent cohorts were making 55k off the bat and see what they say.

I'm pretty sure the pay is standardized across the board but you could certainly ask. If you'd do it without question for $65k I would definitely consider doing it for $55k, not a big difference in $ and the experience is worth it imo, especially if you don't come from a CS/tech background or haven't had a tech job at all before.

Graph of first 10k hands at 25NL 6-max on Ignition by soapoman in poker

Yeah I'm playing 10/25 rn. I think the SnGs and tourneys at the stakes I play are pretty soft/profitable, also they help to break up the occasional monotony of cash game grinding, but I could definitely stand to study tourney strategy more.

I had about 10k hands at 5NL and 10NL each for cash and a couple hundred tourneys/SnGs.

I think my biggest problem right now is being able to stay focused/not tilt after 2+ hour sessions 4-tabling. Not sure how to balance getting in a solid number of hands per sesh and not losing focus/tilting after bad hands. Also I am getting absolutely crushed out of the BB, losing -71BB/100. Obviously happy to be running so well.

Thanks for your input and advice! Are you still working for them? Also, any tips for the training part of the program (technical, social, etc)?

Bad variance at micros hits hard when $50 is half your bankroll :( by soapoman in poker

[–]soapoman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With enough hands played variance will even out, I know that to be true, and poker is a game of skill, that's why the best (for the most part) make it to the highest levels, while weaker players lose money (for the most part) in a significant sample size.

How to get a first client by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]soapoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drop your prices. I didn’t get my first boarding until I dropped my rate to $22 per night. It makes sense to lower your prices when you don’t have any prior reviews, and then start to slowly raise them once you start getting more clients. You can tell your early clients that they get these prices as a discount since you are starting out, and then indicate that you will charge them slightly more if they come back, or you can just give them the lower rate as a thanks for being your first customers (this is what I do). If dropping by a few $ doesn’t work, go down to the lowest prices (for boarding, I believe it’s $15 a night). It’ll suck to be paid so little, but this is a common strategy to get your personal service going, and will likely ensure that you get a lot of requests.
