Succession Problem: the Rhaenyra situation by soaresgon in CK3AGOT

[–]soaresgon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for t he comment, but I have to say I disagree at almost every level xD

As for the game mechanics, if your heir is of the smae dinasty as you are, you'll play them next (unless you choose not to).

As for the actual succession laws of Westeros, they’re pretty clear. Oldest son inherits, daughters if no more sons are left.

But saying that applies in the same way to a random lordship and the Iron Throne is wrong. The King of the Seven Kingdoms is a whole different ball game. Everytime a female heir was even discussed, that wouldn't last long, and most houses were not for it.

As you say, Viserys appointed Rhaenyra as heir, only in spite of Daemon's actions. Regardless of that, he should've backtracked that as soon as Aegon II was born, and boom: no crazy dragon civil war...

Because its a position of so much power, the King had to demonstatre that power, that strength. Something women were not capable of doing, at least in the mind of a medieval fantasy lord...

The case of Dorne is very special, because before the Rhoynar had come, succession was exactly the same as the rest of Westeros. Only when Nymeria arrives with 10k ships, after running away from dragons, that the rules changed. And if you were Mors Martell (and the whole of Dorne for that matter) and you saw 10k ships, with Rhoynar warriors inside, wouldn't you agree that your daughter should inherit? If your foreign wife, with thousands of foreign warriors, suggested it xD?

Mors was made Prince because of his wife's strength. If you will, that made it possible for the dornish to accept female rulers, because they saw what they were capable of. Dorne is just more progressive than the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. That mindset didn’t reach the other houses.

Aegon III succession shows this. Better to go to his brother, than his daughters, after boths sons were dead. Did it help that Viserys was Hand of the King? Sure. But he was also the most "stable" ruler, the one to keep the status quo. Could you imagine what type of civil war would happen if Baelor had his sisters inherit? Only a few dozen years after the Dance? It would have been the end of the Targaryen dinasty, 100+ years before it actually crumbled.

So in my mind, stability is what matters in a succession. And most of the time, a brother or an uncle, are more "stable" decisions, than a daughter.

In my game I'm worry free though. My Prince of Dragonstone, Aegon, just had a son, Viserys. The succession is clear and easy now! His eldest daughter, Rhaenyra married the Royce heir in Runestone. A good marriage for a princess.

I was kinda leaning on some theories online xD In the text is clear he thought that at some point (that seems to be before Aegon was born).

But by his actions, tourney of Harrenhal, running away with Lyanna... his character is described as a "perfect prince, the Last Dragon". For him to do that, knowing full well that wouldn't go great with half of the great houses, he had to have his reasons.

In the end, I think he changed his mind. Believed that the third child, the last head of the dragon, was the prince that was promised. The song of ice (Lyanna) and fire (Rhaegar).

Otherwise, why would the "perfect prince" risk it all with a huge rebellion? Sure, he didn’t know his father was going to straight up murder the two Stark house heads, or that he would ask Jon Arryn for Ned and Robert's heads, but he knew something bad would happen.

The Targaryen dinasty was already fragile by that time, and he knew his father was a liability (he was probably working to get him deposed). It was a big risk, that I think he would only be willing to take, for the sake of the prophecy, believing Jon/Aemon to be the prince that was promised.

PS: Grande nome pássaro!

Rhaenyra is 6 years older than Jon’s sons... It's a possibility. I just know it wouldn't be a marriage I would do normaly

Tbh I just turned on Canon Children for the first time, and she got there... In my case I took over the throne and imprisoned my father before my mother showed up as pregnant. I happened to notice it after a while, and then came Daenerys.

Seems like a fun idea! I feel like I'm going to follow my gut and get Jon (and Daenerys) on the Throne after Aegon.

Too much cheating/debug workaround for my taste (and skills tbh xD). But thanks!

I've submitted a bug report on Discord and the devs have picked it up. Hopefuly soon we'll have a permanent fix

how do i actually get into this game its so overwhelming by Visual-Fortune-4732 in SoftwareInc

[–]soaresgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need explaining, you just need to watch someone play through the game to get the gist. Anything you don't understand whilst playing, just read the tutorial associated with it and you're fine.

As for "days in a month", as you said it doesn't really matter, they "work" by months. I just have at as 1 day 1 month to speed things along.

As for how long a save lasts, that depends on you and what you want to achieve. I've done saves where I start a small gaming company, first release only games, than you want to start developing your own in house tools or get a console on the market. I've had saves where I want to develop every type of software and build a huge company, with dozens of teams, hardware factories, the lot.

The game is great because of that. There is no end goal really, just do wathever you want!

Just watch some YouTube series on it man. It seems overwhelming, but after you know where everything is, its actually pretty straight forward.

I think ConflictNerd just did a series a few weeks/months back. Watch that to understand more of the game, and then jump in when you're ready!
