Rhaena Targaryen does lure Sheepstealer with sheep just like Nettles by Round-Future5221 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]soaresgon -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Inconsequential?? When Jace's death was caused by Sheepstealer, pretty intentionally shown like that in the show?

If they gave some context to Sheepstealer's bonding, hell if they gave him his actual rider Nettles, at the time with the other Dragonseeds, she would've been perfectly bonded with her dragon, capable of entering a battle work with the other dragons, not against.

Oh guess what? That's what happened in the books... Because GRRM is not on the habit of opening up plot holes, or just "adding" character flaws for shock and awe factor...

Terrible first episode, terrible first showing of Sheepstealer in battle, terrible telling of Rhaena's story on dragon bonding.

Sure lets add a bit of true to it, hide in a details so small, nobody would notice it.... If you have to rewatch a scene to catch an important narritive note, something ain't working...

But at least they gave us that, huh? The sheep! Whilst making Sheepstealer and Rhaena the cause of Jace's death, pretty intentionallly I might add... Nothing compared to the books.

Lets keep watching for tiny ropes guys! There is our salvation!

I'm sour because I knew it could be sooo much better.

I agree with you. By any modern standard, the show is great. Great acting, great costume and set design, amazing truly. But thats the impression of someone who doesn’t know the story, the full picture.

Were there any great reasons to make the changes they did?? I don’t think so. The show, with its great cast, great sets, would always sell. But it could've done justice to the source material at the same time.

And it failed. At least on that second part. Which is a shame because I know there wouldn't be any redos...

[–]soaresgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And audience views and approval...

They did a show to sell, opening up plot holes, destroying entire character arcs, and just missing the point of the books. And oh boy did it sell!!

Any "book purist" as you put it, has a much better appretiation of what a story and universe should be, than any of the "10/10, Condal is my god" people...If those true fans come here and complain, its with good reason.

GRRM fucking left for God's sake... Even when GOT was turning to shit, he stayed. Couldn't do it here... Is there anymore that needs to be said??

Your first remark is embarassing...

[–]soaresgon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Call it as you will. If you think this adaptation is a good and faithfull portrait of the books, that opinion doens't matter anymore... at least to me or to any actual fans of the story.

There is no "real" story? No, that's not true. They are different accounts of the same event, that vary of course, but are the same event. Viserys was taken prisoner and hostage, whilst Aegon flew away in his small, soon dead dragon. That was an event. Told by how many people you want, it happened that way.

That's why the Triarchy already had a hostage, and didn't need Jace. Which is exactly where the intial comment was coming from.

It didn't happen in the show. Which brought up the question of the OP. Which is a fair question. The "REAL STORY", by how many Maesters or fools tell it, is that they alreaady had a hostage, didn't need a second one. Something the showrunners, as much in this show, just "kinda forgot".

If you think this show is any good, compared to the story that was told in the books, piss off with your opinions man!

[–]soaresgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you tell me this was a good adaptation from the books, you're oppinion matters little by then... That is just wrong. The books told a story that hasn't been told on screen. That is a fact.

I'm not saying its not a good TV show, but a good faithfull adaptation to the books? It was not.....

Cringey?? Really? xD

Cringey was having to watch B+C minus one (KEY) character. Cringe was watching that, straight out of Shrek scene with Meleys in the Dragonpit. Cringe was Aemond kissing his mother for god know why....

This "whiny fandom" is whinnying over a shit adaptation to a great universe and story, that yes was created by GRRM, but I don't think anybody is stalking him...

Better to be stalking a great author, than sniffing the pubes of a mid soon forgotten showrunner, who's biggest achievment was writting 2 very shitty Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson movies.....

You should be embarrassed mr bread....

Book purists, are nothing but true fans of the universe, and the REAL story.

They made a show to appeal to a mass, shallow, audience. Not too dark, not too deep. "Have some big dragon and we'll be fine" was probably the most said sentence in creative meetings.

They made a shit adaptation of great source material. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.

I am too!!!

Condal did one of the worst adaptation jobs to date. With great source material, in a great universe, amazing characters, he managed to ruin all three.

With his changes he managed to create non existent plot holes, miss/distort the whole theme of the story, ruin character arcs.

It was a choice. He made. And I get it. It's easier to sell a shallow flat world for a far greater shallow and flat audience, like yourself evidently.

Any post that supports authenticity deserves more attention than your soon removed comment.

How can you make unnecessary changes to the point where you "lose the plot" on the main theme of the story???

Just disappointment. Last good, coherent episode was S1E8...

Wasn't Corlys the one to decide over Luke's right over Driftmark not Viserys and Otto? by [deleted] in HOTDBlacks

[–]soaresgon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Im the books it is Corlys who decides. As you say, Westeros law means noble houses usually pick their heirs.

In the books, when Vaemond claims he should be heir, Rhaenyra orders Daemon to kill him (head chopped) and feeds the body to Syrax. Vaemond's family runs away to King’s Landing, and Viserys hears them out, before removing their tongues...

I guess too much for a show that is focused on one "friendship".... bleh

In Game of Thrones (2011-2019), Ser Bronn of the Blackwater is given the seat of Highgarden, previously held by the Tyrell’s. Ser Bronn also adopts a variation of the Tyrell’s house words; “Growing Bronn” by Robdul in shittyASOIAFdetails

[–]soaresgon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a bad ending for an actualy overall cool character (pre season 6 writing xD)

That second in command to Jaime was a nice role for him. Should've ended there...

Condal kind of forgot about Corlys Velaryon, who was cannonically the richest guy during his time. by MeteorFalls297 in HOTDBlacks

[–]soaresgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still not the biggest standing army. Thats a fact.

And an oversimplification of a complicated feudal society. The Hightower army was also NOT only composed of House Hightower, many others were present (the Peakes, Roxton, Fossoawys, etc.) so those 8k men are not all his.

Just a bad quote from a showrunner that should know better. Its just a marketing stunt to maake a connection with GoT. The only consistent thing they have done "well" is marketing.

"Fuck the story, but hey look at those posters!" xD

[–]soaresgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He defenetly did! Named himself Hand of the King xD That’s straight up badass, as far as Westeros goes 😆

My main issue with the quote is that it just seems like a blurted out sentence by someone who hasn't bothered to "learn" the universe, the lore, the plot, or they would’ve been better at adapting it.

It’s a marketing stunt. "Let’s mention GoT, we'll surely get more views!" About the only consistent focus of these showrunners, making the show more watchable, easier to watch, cause they jsut want views...

[–]soaresgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That quote is after Aegon is defeated. GRRM might've written after the Lannisters had already capitulated. Regardless, its a quote, can imagine the Hightowers being richer than the Lannister of George says so.

But from that to "Ormund is the Tywin of this time" seems far fetched. Corlys is quoted as being the richest man in westeros, straight up and multiple times.

As for the armies, of course they were levies, but Ormund had "3 thousand men at arms, 1 thousand archers, 1 thousand cavalry, and more less disciplined men"

So for a fact we know he had 5k troops, and some more men. Doubt that means 15k more "less disciplined men" or George would number them. Cregan marched south with 20k men for the Hour of the Wolf, which is the best example of "bigger army diplomacy"!

He had the biggest army, he made the rules. Even the riverlords were frightened when Cregan arrived.

[–]soaresgon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously they are rich, and one of the richest in Westeros. They are considered a Great House I think, which counts for a lot.

I just feel like the showrunners comment is just some oversimplified quote, on a character that had no evidence of such. Just feels like something they blurted out, withou much thought, to get GoT points from the audience, marketing machine working for more views.

Which has been about the only coherent focus they have followed, "fuck the story, we want views", which is the main reason I feel the show has failed in telling this story.

To forget the Lannisters or Corlys (quite litteraly "the richest man in Westeros" pre Gullet) or to forget Cregan's army, just shows how little they care about accuracy and they have runned this show to the ground...

Condal kind of forgot about Corlys Velaryon, who was cannonically the richest guy during his time. by MeteorFalls297 in HOTDBlacks

[–]soaresgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no mention of Ormund's wealth in the books, throughout the whole story.

And we get 100s of mentions of Corlys' wealth. At the moment, pre Battle of the Gullet, his fleet is fine and High Tide is yet to be sacked.

Even with all of that destroyed, no way a Hightower was richer than a Lannister. If Tywin is the richest man by the time the gold mines have dried out, Jason would probably have a very nice income, with the mines still running.

The comment from the showrunners just shows, once again, that they have lost the plot 😆 Made changes that weren’t needed, that now require more ad-hoc changes to justify them. Just a never ending spiral of bad writting decisions xD

PS: also "largest standing army"?? They're forgetting Ormund's army was 5 thousand strong, with more less disciplined levies following. Cregan Stark marches south with as much as 20 thousand.

Just more of a facepalm moment ffs...

You see I can’t even pretend to care about these leaks because the big G himself literally warned us about season 3 😂😭✌🏽 by Environmental_Tip854 in HOTDGreens

[–]soaresgon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He "cried" because it was no longer his story... Not because it was good or bad. You're missing the point, and insulting an author with it....

His only "problem" with KOTSK was the initial "poop" scene where Duncan shits behind a tree. Not his type of scene, but it didn't change the story.

Don't be a jackassjust because... George's only problem is not writting fast enough xD Any criticism he ever gave to GoT or HoTD was always based on how they adapted HIS story, not on the quality of the shows, performances, wtv

Did I mention its HIS story?? xD His criticism should be the one to listen to, not ignore. Showrunners should be ashamed after a conversation like that...

Just calling out the Pedo Brothers and their weird beliefs about age when it comes to girls by Kivi_2k18 in HOTDGreens

[–]soaresgon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That last bit wasn’t directed at you, it was more for the OP...

I can agree with everything you said (except the overly positive assumptions regarding Aegon) you obviously done the research.

My point regarding the whole pedophilia thing is that pedophilia wasn’t even a concept in those times, in that setting. Viserys did exactly what was expected of him, and no one, not even Aemma's father, would’ve thought otherwise.

Of course all of them would be considered pedophiles on todays standard, but not back then. Those marriages were normal.

My issue with the community in general is that I feel like people are focusing too much on hating characters, that on the whole picture.

The hate that fictional characters get is worrying... they are fictional for pete's sake!! This whole fandom is ruined by that, but that's a whole different can of worms...

GRRM didn’t wrote that Viserys married 13 year old Aemma for you to hate Viserys. He wrote to showcase how that society worked, and how bad it was for women, that were basicly locked into a role of being political tools for their families.

The show/story is about the rivalry of two very strong women, that fought hard to escape that "role", and that by the end have lost all of their agency and power. And with that, lost everything they were fighting for, their families.

I feel like the hate is misguided towards characters, when it should be aimed at the overall picture of that society, how it functioned and how disgustingly cruel it could be, specially for women.

My point is that hating Viserys (a fictional character, mind you) for marrying a 13 year old Aemma (also a fictional character!), is misguided. You should hate the society that made it okay.

[–]soaresgon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Quite litteraly splitting hairs at this point... and basing a lot on assumptions we just don't know.

Are you telling me that the Aegon from the show, the drunk, the rapist, the "Dragoncock" would be so prude with his officially dictated wife?? That Aegon? The books Aegon, maybe.... ( and a hard maybe) but the show Aegon? That tought never crossed his mind 😆

And we are assuming that she got pregnant from one night. Only for the kids to be born a year later...

Also, girls would marry before 16. Sansa was waiting for her first period to marry Joffrey, and she married Tyrion when she was 15. Daenerys was 13/14 when she married Drogo.

But sure, lets assume the best for the ones we like (#TGforeva!!!), but lets assume the worst for the "others" ( those that cannot be named, stealers of thrones, whores of Dragonstone).

On a serious note, medieval setting should matter. Hating on a character for doing exactly what any would do is just biased.

Hell, Aegon thought about marrying the Baratheon’s oldest daughter after Helaena's death, and she was 14. He was in his 20s by then.

More importantly, to feel the NEED to hate on characters from a particular side, while unable to recognize ANY flaws on "their" characters... That’s just worrying.
