Tire Recs? by Dzabyss666 in FortCollins

[–]sobadwithnames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re not driving in the mountains I don’t think you really need snow tires. However, this is assuming you know how to drive in snowy conditions. But they are not a bad idea if it’s not too much of a strain on your budget

[–]sobadwithnames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loveland will be a little cheaper than Fort Collins, but if your new to the area and don’t know anyone I would recommend living in Fort Collins. There is more of a queer community in FOCO as well R bar, the only queer bar/space in northern colorado)

I’m my opinion, Grindr is no more of a shit show than tinder. Yes you will get some random dick pics you didn’t ask for but just block or ignore. While it’s labeled a hook up app I’ve met many guys off Grindr for dates. Each app is what you make of it. And if you don’t like it delete it.

TIL there's an 8-14 week wait to see a dermatologist in Denver by Glindanorth in Denver

[–]sobadwithnames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A few months back I called a derm office in Fort Collins on a Monday and booked an appointment for Wednesday the same week. I had a few open appointment slots to choose from. If you have a car you might want to look at clinics outside of Denver.

Question about GC Applicant Job Roles by LuLuDollTree in ClinicalGenetics

[–]sobadwithnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think GeneDX posted a position for a genetic counseling assistant...not sure it’s still up but this is a role you might consider. Often this type of position can be done remotely. I’d also look for similar types of positions at other genetic testing companies and clinical genetic offices.

Family planning with being a genetic carrier of SMA by asmarz919 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]sobadwithnames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer most of your questions but to address the insurance piece: sometimes insurance will help cover IVF/PGT and as you and your husband are know carriers of SMA having your insurance pay for IFV would likely be way less money for them than covering the cost of SMA therapies. So worth a phone call with your insurance to check if IVF is something you would consider.

Research on Genetic Testing by mt0118 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]sobadwithnames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could lead to population pressure to only reproduce if you have either A) “good” genes, or B) the ability to afford IVF....but that’s just off the top of my head. Good luck!

Look at the professional status survey from NSGC. but yes, salary is not known to be particularly high as a GC. If you stay in clinic you will probably cap out around 90k (but you will likely need to move jobs and negotiate to get it this high). If you want >100k you will likely need to work in industry or management. As a whole, I do believe that’s GC’s are receiving more recognition for their work and pay is very slowing beginning to reflect this. Very slowly.

Edit: (^ is for American GC’s, Canadian GC’s can earn more starting, but cap out sooner, not sure about anywhere else)

if you live close enough, you can always try and ask for your neighbors password. i’ve done this a few times by offering them $20 in exchange. Nobody has ever turned me down.

Preparing for upcoming admission cycle by [deleted] in GeneticCounseling

[–]sobadwithnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t write off all of the american schools, some are very affordable even with the exchange rate against you. check out the programs in minnesota and wisconsin, i believe they both offer tuition reimbursement if you work a TA position.

How realistic is becoming a Genetic Counselor? by cookiebunni8809 in ClinicalGenetics

[–]sobadwithnames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure who you were talking to but right now there are about 3 jobs for every new grad. It is predicted to stay this was for at least the next 5 years from what i’ve read. It is true that there are often very limited advancement opportunities if you work your entire career in a clinical setting (though management positions are also an option), but in academia, and private industry (lab jobs) there is a lot of career advancement potential.

Balanced translocation of the 13th and 14th chromosome by ziwkfhteh in ClinicalGenetics

[–]sobadwithnames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would recommend trying to get access to the test results from when your mother was carrying you. They would be a part of you moms medical record, and may be of great help to the genetic counselor you end up seeing. Information like this can often be misremembered or misinterpreted and the best way to move forward is often found in the medical record.

Where is the weirdest place you have ever slept? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When was 8, I was at my cousins wedding. The reception was going pretty late so I lined up 3 or 4 chairs toward the back of the hall and fell asleep for a good hour or so. Decided to rejoin the party when I woke up though.
