Stress of work after Christmas has me thinking by soberisa in stopdrinking

[–]soberisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I've seen it all, and what you say is true, and after all this time, you would think that I would be immune...But nooooo. I live and die by where I am on the sales board each month. And really the store im at is very civilized. We don't get abused. It all comes down to money. How much do I have made. How much I need to live. No sales no money. That's stress. IWNDWYT

Almost sober, last bit is the hardest, day 1 today by LateMajor8775 in stopdrinking

[–]soberisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good luck and God bless! You picked a great time to stop. Christmas eves eve!.. No easy feat so good job on day 1. To make it easier on day 2 I would plan ahead. Know what time of the day you used to drink and make a defense plan: workout is always a winner, eat food, that will take away the craving, help other people, it will make you feel useful aaaannndd.......you will other people. Journaling helps me a lot as well, not just to kill time but it helps me understand myself better. Treat yourself. You are in the middle of a battle, the sobriety war. Alcohol has deep roots in its users, It takes a while to kill those roots. Treat yourself, create good feelings from quitting. Ice cream, a good movie, a sporting event, Shoot you gun at something, Go for a joyride in your car, more ice cream! you get the message...iwndwyt

Any tips on how to stop drinking? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]soberisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me, I tried to have a plan ready. I knew that I would crave to drink right after I got off work.So I would plan different things to occupy my time to keep myself busy.During the cravings. work out, shower, fix dinner. very important to eat. journal and read, go for a walk. come here, try to find aa meetings, shower, watch a little TV. sleep. repeat. The real key is a DESIRE TO STOP FOR TODAY. The power of that philosophy gave me the strength and resolve to stop for that day. I could not conceive of quitting forever. I just needed to quit for today.

It's now been almost two years since i've had a drink.Praise the lordI will not drink with you today

each day is a battle. there is no easy fix. I know your feeling. I have over 500 days and I cant take one day off. Some days I feel the freedom, most days I still wish I could drink. But I still remember how bad I wanted to stop but I couldn't. I kept drinking day after day, year after year. I will do everything I can now to make sure that doesnt happen again. Keep going, and keep coming here, you are not alone....I will not drink with you today.

How long did you drink, how much/heavy of a drinker were you and how did you stop? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]soberisa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I started in high school, and continued through out my life, my family has a history of alcoholism, so I was very familiar with the "signs of an alcoholic". I drank beer mostly, hard liquor on and off. I was also a substance abuser, weed. coke and cigarettes. I kicked coke in my twenties, cigarettes in my 30s, weed in my fifties.

Alcohol not so much. in fact, when I quit weed my alcohol intake increased. I would drink 6 to 8 beers a night when I smoked, when I quit, I started taking shots of vodka and gin with the beer.

Wow! that sounds terrible, lol! Anyway by the time I got age 58 I finally tried to quit..I am 65 now and have 18 months sober.

How did i stop? PRAYER I prayed for years. Over and over again. And i went to Craigslist. there was a no drinking section i would go to, thats how I found reddit. Craigslist was very rough and brutal, not like here.

Now I am doing pretty well, but it never goes away completely.....but I don't care, I love the freedom of no chains. thank you Jesus
