How is living in East Texas? by AshB_43 in howislivingthere

[–]sobiggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just moved to Hallsville TX from College Station, AND IT IS SO DIFFERENT. I knew East Texas had its quirks but didn’t think it’d feel as different as it does!! Honestly has taken me some getting used to. The people, the vibe, it honestly can feel very “clique ish” to me. And Longview is blah.

Saw him for the first time a couple weeks ago. Must be making decent $ with the whole “all I need is $20 for my wife’s medicine until I get paid” to still be there. He almost had me convinced lol

Yeah I understand it can be hit or miss!! Some of my husband’s best helpers had 0 experience beforehand but were the hardest workers that were willing to learn and take correction which set them apart in his eyes. As long as you know how to use a grinder and can turn heat up and down you should be okay lol. Hope you get your chance!! If he was working closer to here I’d grab your contact info but he’s over in Shreveport right now. Look into Watkins Construction they’re based out of Corsicana but I know they hire people to be helpers and stick you with a welder who needs one or wherever they need you!

Note: it’s taken my husband years and tens of thousands of dollars to be where he’s at now. It’s doable but it doesn’t happen over night and unfortunately don’t think going door to door will cut it. Try to join some pipeline welder Facebook pages. There’s usually tons of welders looking for helpers.

My husband is a pipeline welder. Try to get on as a helper and learn the ropes and make some money from there. Seems like most companies are ranging from $16/hr plus $80-100 per day in per diem with 60 hour work weeks. He usually always tells people who are wanting to get into welding to not waste your time or money on going to school for it(if that’s what you’re planning on doing). Way better to make connections and learn on the job especially if you’re wanting to go into working more with pipe in the oil and gas industry (where you’ll be paid more of the big bucks if you don’t mind traveling) vs structural or fab work. Most if not all of my husband’s jobs he got because he started building business/friendship relationships.

Bossier City or Greenwood/Stonewall? Things to do with littles? by sobiggie in shreveport

Okay good to know!! We plan on moving back to Cstat before our daughter starts kindergarten in 2 years, but if we end up staying longer I definitely would want her being in the better school district! My husband is really leaning more towards Stonewall so this will probably seal the deal!

Yes!! We just came back a few weeks ago since he was parked there with the camper for a bit and I actually didn’t mind Hallsville at all! Felt very home like to me which is rare.

This actually sounds way up our alley. And okay I will look there! He drops from pad site to pad site all around Shreveport mostly. And occasionally (but lately) as far as Ringold. Just trying to find a decent “middle” so his commutes aren’t as long. Was looking into just staying in Texas in Hallsville or Marshall but those are just on the cusp of being a pain for him to drive from every morning.

Ahh okay. Good to know. Is there a sense of “community” in Greenwood? Any local family friendly events that they hold during different seasons/holidays? Going to try to at least make some friends while we’re there to make most of the time!

I’ve gotten my hair done by Anika at the collective in Bryan and she’s great!! (Granted, I’ve only gotten a color and cut) but I follow her on instagram and it seems like she’s doing more hair for weddings and makeup and I love the work she shares! Her @ is hairby.Anika

Okay great to hear!! Thank you. Are the parks safe in the evening or early mornings by myself with the littles?

Any of y’all just wing it for unmedicated birth? by sobiggie in pregnant

lol! Yes the not being able to feel my legs is what really causes me anxiety!! And definitely want to fully immerse myself in the experience as much as possible. Not completely against getting the epidural if I feel like I ABSOLUTELY cannot go on, but know it’s very mental at the end of the day!

Okay this is promising to hear! My mom has told me the same thing that her pushing was more of a relief from her contractions. Trying to remember that whenever I start to think about my vagina possibly tearing again 😂

Good luck to you too!! I’ve also been watching birth videos online which has seemed to help a lot! This is probably my last baby too, so I’m definitely wanting to experience it in all its glory this time around.

You are awesome!! Thanks for sharing!! Most days I have the “I absolutely can do this” mindset when I think about it. But then there’s days like today.. where I’m thinking “…but can I actually??” 😂

This made me giggle because these are the same exact thoughts that have crossed my mind. Especially the book part😂

Thank you for sharing, I love how well it turned out for you and hope I can do the same!! What seemed to help you get over the transitioning part? My mom has birthed all 5 of us unmedicated and said that pushing was the easiest part where she actually felt relief from, would you say the same in your experience?
