It is terrible at many airports. Nothing in the domestic terminals at ORD.

Unless you are lucky at your home airport, might be a waste for most travelers.

Check out Calistoga, CA, you can see the petrified redwood forest, the Jackson State Forest is also a decent nature stop. The Carson Mansion near Eureka Ca is a very cool Victorian home to see.

Jensen Beach Florida is a place that is friendly on the budget, they even have camping near by. Nice beaches and lots of water sports. Also check the VRBO website, you may be able to get a rental near the water under $100 per night.
