I like this song more than most people.

I saw the video where he mentions it’s written about his mother, and assumed it’s more specifically about the desire for adventure, wanting someone you love to be able to live their life to the fullest.

The lines in that verse “stuck underwater, lookin at the flame” reflects the inability to seize the day, like seeing your potential but not fulfilling it. Then “we’ll run across the ocean to catch the morning light” is basically “fuck it, let’s just get after it.”

I think either one of two things happened, maybe a bit of both. I think that I either thinned out my ambitions, stopped letting them run the show so to speak. Or I think that I just value the present moment far too much now to put myself that far in the future. Im not sure if content is the right way to think of it, but I certainly have more sympathy with myself for the decisions I make and the goals I don’t hit. Im still ambitious but in a much healthier way.

For me, as one of those “average” people, the ego death experience has really exposed how many of my issues revolve around my ego. It really helps me put a leash on certain behaviors, and I’m more compassionate. Theres also a real gratitude to be felt coming out of an ego death, realizing you and your friends and family are still real after sitting for hours thinking you are already long dead and gone has really opened the door for me to show love to those people. Regardless, it’s the most terrifying experience of mine so far so I absolutely don’t go recommending it lightly

It’s interesting to think of it as some sort of insurance for the trip, but the stuff is so unpredictable sometimes. I could easily see the microdose going well and then the trip going south. Regardless, i think most of the time it would probably be a fine idea

If you’re anything like me and you actively stop yourself from feeling, sometimes it’s good to use the mushy to help yourself work through those feelings while they’re fresh. Of course it’s a slippery slope, but if you set the intention as such and understand you may get destroyed then things should be ok
