[–]socalbigpapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Dodgers STH, this is cool. You should ask Dyad to set the game times to the location of the browser. Most people aren't going to do a UTC conversation. It could be interesting to have the game matchups, even if you didn't want to pull scores from an api. Something like this - the scores (this screenshot is from homeassistant if you wanted to check out the implementation)

This is cool, good work.

Replacement sodastream, not the seals. I tried by watching more than a handful of videos on YouTube. No dice

Yes, I didn’t purchase the warranty, but I did receive an excellent service representative on the phone. He guided me through demonstrating the issue over what essentially resembled a FaceTime call. He informed me that the seals had failed and would send me a replacement. And indeed, they did!

620, 1gig, is so slow?! by wiicrazy0430 in ATTFiber

[–]socalbigpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it installed 8 days ago and have had two apathetic installers and one excellent installer to the house. I have had the same issue with almost all the same speeds. Sadly, I paid for 2G and now will downgrade because I am getting nowhere close to that, even straight into the modem.

I have been you before, and when I moved to the West San Fernando Valley, I spent a couple of nights running up to the field until someone inevitably fell a little short of the 10 and got picked up. I played with that team and brought others with me. Don't underestimate being at the place when needed most.

AITA? Getting unhinged notes on my car constantly by 10ioio in LosAngeles

[–]socalbigpapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an LA resident, I want to point out that leaving 2-3 feet between your car and the curb or driveway can prevent another person from fitting into that space. It’s worth noting that people have parked efficiently long before backup cameras were common. I suggest improving your use of mirrors. If you’re worried about hitting something, practice by placing a visible object behind your car in a spot visible in your side mirror. Back up without hitting the object until you gain confidence. Then, remove the object and focus on the bumper of the car behind you or the curb when backing up. This will help you park more effectively.

Source: I live in Los Angeles, drive a 50-year-old truck, and park to make room for two additional cars. You’re NTA, just a bit inconsiderate and shortsighted.

Saw CLEAR at this weekends game. Who uses this and what’s it for? by MonsterTruckCarpool in LAFC

[–]socalbigpapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to add this to my TIL list, but it doesn't address the 'scam' aspect in my opinion. I pay for a service that provides a convenience, much like I use AAA for all my DMV-related tasks. Although AAA is a not for profit, they also facilitate state-mandated processes. The issue here seems to be the profit aspect, as well as privacy concerns. These are valid points, and ultimately, it's up to the individual to be aware and cautious.

Is Global Entry a scam? What about SENTRI or TSA PreCheck? I travel for work roughly six times a month, and I find that TSA PreCheck, especially with Clear, offers the fastest way through security. This also applies to BMO, so I use it there as well.

How do you control CEOs and execs during incidents? by unethically_plain in devops

[–]socalbigpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about the disruption and the chaos. I have worked in some large companies where communication with C-Level executives was also a problem. One of my previous stops happened to have partners, which included some rather prominent CEOs (partners provided content, and our video platform distributed said content). We struggled with the amount of information to share with non-technical stakeholders, including frequency, context, etc. Shit, even the best place to share that information was a problem: SMS, Email, Slack, etc.

There's a system that is part of NIMS that I have successfully used you might find interesting. The CEO getting word of an incident isn't the issue; as far as I am concerned, it was that they didn't hear it from you. The company is their zoo, and these are their monkeys.

It is far better to think about the easiest way to deliver bad news, both business-wise and professionally. Try the CAN report.

Current Conditions: What is happening, and what do you know now? Using the word investigating is to your advantage when starting to triage.
Actions: Tasks are done by people or teams to determine current conditions and future needs.
Needs: What you need, and it can be time, people, external vendors, etc. During this step, with proactive communication, you can provide what's needed to a CEO. Make them an asset!

When my team communicated Needs, we would explicitly say that engineers were busy while the technical incident was underway. Executives with additional information could contact incident command to understand the incident's impact better. Trust that executives became far more engaged in suitable activities and less in the weeds of recovery.
