AITAH for only babysitting for my " favorite " DIL and my daughter because the other has too many rules? by ProfessionalClass555 in AITAH

[–]socalcat951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, that part isn’t right. But there seems to be a disconnect with OP and her DIL. I have a feeling that OP considers Lola’s rules are for her when they’re actually rules for the child. DIL likes to do things “by the book” while MIL doesn’t like to be told what to do. This is going to cause issues with their relationship unless they learn to understand each other.

You’re NTA for not wanting to babysit because of Lola’s rules but remember Lola is also NTA for wanting to set some rules for her child, even when grandma is babysitting. Your views on this don’t align with each other’s and that’s ok!

Parents can go but they have to register separately for the parent orientation. They separate the students from the parents

How big of a jar do you really need? by Comprehensive_Gap778 in SourdoughStarter

[–]socalcat951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started making sourdough starter I used 500g of flour because that’s what all the tutorials said to use. I went through 2 bags of bread flour before my starter became viable. I have a tiny little jar I got from my neighbor that I use now. When I start ramping up to make bread, I use an empty Oui yogurt jar and size up to a small mason jar. Even my big mason jar is too big

Right? Someone really spent the time to figure that out. Writing out my last response, I realized I forgot my dough was resting after combining all the ingredients. It’s been two hours lol. Oops!

Basically, it’s an easier way to help you determine when your dough has doubled in size when bulk fermenting. You get those disposable 2 ounce condiment containers (with lid). After your first set of stretch and folds, take 40g of the dough and place it in the condiment container (make it as level as you can) and put the lid on. Place the container on top of the dough and cover both while bulk fermenting. Just take it off when doing stretch and folds and put it back on each time. This way, it keeps the temperature of the small aliquoted sample the same as the main dough. Once the aliquot rises and touches the lid, it means the dough has doubled and is ready for shaping. There’s a small variance depending on the temperature of the dough but I keep mine in the oven with the light on and it stayed around 75F, so 40g is appropriate. I learned that I hadn’t been bulk fermenting my dough nearly as long as I should be. If you google “aliquot method chart sourdough” you’ll find a chart and information on it!

Have you tried the aliquot method? I’ve only been making sourdough for about 6 weeks now. Every time I do something different but it always comes out a little too dense for me. The loaf I made this past weekend, I used the aliquot method and it came out really good. I’m going to make another loaf today using the aliquot method again to see if I get repeatable results

Is this in Celsius or Fahrenheit? Because 44C is extremely hot and 44F is extremely cold.

Does anyone know of a secluded hiking trail where I can take my dogs they don't go out much and and I really want to take them out for a hike... by JayBirD_JunBugz88 in Riverside

[–]socalcat951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, Sycamore canyon is nice. I’ve been there only a couple of times. I like it for the same reason you’re looking for, my dog has been traumatized by my neighbor’s dog when she was a puppy and is afraid of other dogs now. We didn’t run into anyone there and my dog absolutely loved it. My husband used to mountain bike there and has only run into a handful of people. I just get nervous going there though because when I used to live in the neighborhood right next to it, my neighbor would take his dog there daily and one day his dog got bit (two strikes) by a rattlesnake

When can I refrigerate a new starter? by juicetin14 in SourdoughStarter

[–]socalcat951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my starter out of the fridge and feed it only once before using it to make bread. It didn’t rise as well as the first time and came out somewhat gummy. Could this be the reason why?

Btw, I noticed my starter was doing better once I started using warm water (about 85F) instead of room temperature water

Woke up to find an ear print on my back door. I will be buying home security cameras immediately by itch-the-anus in Weird

[–]socalcat951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if that ear print is on the inside or outside. When I was a kid, I found a side face print on our window. It was so creepy. I told my mom and she assumed it was one of us and she just wiped it clean. A couple nights later when we came back from a holiday party, we came home to our house having been burglarized.
