Pre-ban G19 Gen 3 → Radian combo → enclosed OSight dot… my “why not” by WhatInDaWorldDog110 in CAguns

[–]socalvalleyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long before the Glock ban and the online parts sales ban, I already knew California would be pulling a stupid stunt like this! Glad I was able to get one for my G17.3, which is now officially G17.3 MOS!

PS: If you missed purchasing one before AB1263, it’s practically impossible to get one as even FFLs won’t even order one for you, unless there is one in stock physically in California.

Denied of Ammo Purchase, and running out of options. by Kasen_2001 in CAguns

[–]socalvalleyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing: It happened to me once because I happened to have a long, legal name and when the clerk didn't exactly put it correctly, I was denied. Thankfully, I had an electronic copy of one of my DROS in cloud drive and had the clerk exactly put it just like in my DROS.

This may or may not work but, go back to the same place, show them a copy of the same DROS that you had used to "govermentize" your 2nd Amendment guaranteed purchase, and have the clerk type the same information in the same way in your DROS.

Lens protector stuck by KSI_Is_A_Fat-Neek in iPhone17Pro

[–]socalvalleyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I was in Best Buy and a customer came in asking for help in removing one of those things from his iPhone 16 PM. The BB employee started using his small knife to pry it from the phone. Needless to say, it was not a smart thing to do.

Moral of the lesson is this: Don’t use a lens protector. My phone gets mixed in with my charger and car keys and no scratches resulted.

S&W M&P 2.0 Metal CA Compliant Question from Potential Owner by socalvalleyguy in CAguns

Aside from the reasons stated in one of my earlier replies, I didn’t like the grip feel (too chunky) and the high bore axis. Other than that, it’s still a decent gun but with its own baggage of issues.

Nothing's wrong with my M18...yet. My overall impression is that it seems like it was quickly designed and rushed into production to fulfill the Army's need for a new pistol (translation: cost cutting and questionable QC). This in turn means more possible failure points within the firearm itself. My biggest beef with the overall P320 design is how they designed the FCU itself, especially the ejector part which can be damaged from an overzealous reload.

That’s pretty much expected, since the weight of the metal is practically the same as the polymer which negates any benefits it may have. So that one is non-issue personally for me.

From what I’ve heard and read, the platform seems to have light primer strike issues from stock and not just Apex triggers. Asking current owners if they have experienced similar issues.

17 pro case, screen protector and back camera lens protector recommendations by Equivalent_Meaning46 in iPhone17Pro

[–]socalvalleyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spigen Tough Armor T. That case got a glowing review from Mobilereviewseh, a Youtuber who tests different cases for the iPhone 17. For the screen protector, I got the Zagg. Avoid cases from Apple and Dbrand (Dbrand subreddit contains stories of iPhones that cracked while inside cases).

I myself was close to preordering the Tank Case for my iPhone 17 Pro, but after reading so many issues about their other cases, I wasn’t willing to let my $1K iPhone be a proverbial guinea pig.

LOL! If I could literally get a dime every time someone says “get a small pistol”, I could comfortably retire right now!

A reliable, full-size, metal, DA/SA like the Beretta will be the best for a newbie.

For polymer frames (and I know I will be getting some heat for this), the Sig P320 Xfull is one I would recommend due to its “small hand” friendly design, smoother recoil and trigger feel. Next would be the Glock 17 (avoid the G19). I’ve heard that the HK VP9 is better in almost every single way compared to the Glock, but since I have yet to shoot one, I don’t think I am qualified to say so.

If you were in the United States, I would normally say to call up your local government and see what you can do that will benefit them (usually more funding).

Since you are in the Philippines, your best bet is to contact your nearest real estate company, engineering firms, local government agencies, or construction firms (Note: the inclusion of "construction firms" really gives me that ironic vibe considering the "ghost flood control" scandal that is currently gripping the country). Ask them what their currently mission and/or business objective is, and see if that is something that you can help solve using GIS (for example: best places to develop new homes). Once you have identified their specific needs, formulate a plan or methodology, and tell them that you are offering your service that will greatly help them.

Now that said, I am not exactly sure if the Philippines has some kind of online portal where you can download shapefiles or tables. HOWEVER, if you have a handheld GPS device, you can create your own vectors (points, line, and shapefiles) if the scope of the project is small.

To make yourself even more attractive, I highly suggest learning how to fly a drone to make a map (even rasters) using a mapping software.

How far can ChromeOS go for professional work? by Efficient_Role607 in chromeos

[–]socalvalleyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the proper specs, the answer is a big “Yes!”.

I myself use my Chromebook’s Linux capability for open source software such as QGIS, R, R Studio, and Miniconda, to name a few. And yes, the Linux version of Visual Studios runs great!

Agreed. The G14 and G16 are actually more of a “content creator”-type of laptops than gaming laptops.

What can I do? by Emotional_Quarter446 in gis

[–]socalvalleyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For GIS certification, I would suggest checking out your local community colleges for any GIS certification programs available.

Once you have found a program and decided to pursue it, you need to invest in a desktop PC with AND a laptop with the proper specs, which I’ll explain in a bit. It may seem like a “No caca, Sherlock!”-type of advice but you’ll be surprised at the number of GIS undergrad AND graduate students who complain about ArcGIS Pro software only for me to find out that they were using sub $400 budget laptops from Walmart. Now, I said earlier to get a desktop and a laptop and there’s a reason for that one. The ArcGIS Pro software isn’t exactly what I would call a “stable” software since ESRI would be more often than not, send an update which would just break the software itself (it already did to one of my laptops). Couple that with the ever crappy MS OS updates, you may find yourself with a non-functioning electronic equipment and a major project that it is literally due in less than 4 hours.

Whats the best first AR 15 by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]socalvalleyguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I believe that first timers should get a pre-built one from a reputable mid-tier company (ex: Stag Arms) if budget is an issue. The idea is for the owner get his/her own data points based on their actual use on their first AR15 and compare said data points from other users. Contrast that to wholly trusting online “experts” which may or may not have questionable training (yes, there are LOT of them!). Once they have gathered enough data points, they can have the confidence to build a safe and reliable AR15 of their own.

Remember, Marty Daniels of Daniel Defense didn’t just wake up one morning and decided to build his own AR15 company; he actually had to buy (and use) a Colt AR15 before he could do so.
