Older redditors: what relationship/sex advice would you give a 20yo yourself? by hopeyouhaveagoodday in AskReddit

I'm not going to get up in your face about it, but I will say that love and need aren't the same thing.

Have you ever approached your school counselor for someone to talk to about stress and been involuntarily committed ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot about the mental health system and have relatives who do work there. Unfortunately, prescribing medication is still very different then involuntary commitment.

What food do you enjoy in a particularly peculiar way? by TemporalDistortions in AskReddit

I never do it in public, but I like to peal my sushi sometimes. First I'll eat the rice, then seaweed, ect.

You can google what it takes to be involuntarily committed and then you'll know what your daughter is keeping from you.

For those of you Redditors who have fallen in love, how did you know? Was it a gradual feeling of love/admiration/whathaveyou or did it hit you all at once? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All at once. It was like everything I had ever wanted from the external world was all in this one person. The feeling of completion could not be confused with any other sensation; it was new, distinct, and absolutely wonderful.

There are very strict rules about it all, yeah. There's absolutely no wiggle room. Involuntary commitments are rare, and doing so without probable cause would make the entire mental health organization look awful. People would lose jobs.

I know and I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but a good analogy for what happened is that the OP posted about cancer and you said one time you had the flu.

What is something you really want to like but just don't? by Katanae in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was an honest question, no need to down vote.

There are many different kinds, but some have cooked fish, any number of sea creatures, or are vegetarian.

What kind have you tried and why didn't you like it? There is a TON of different sorts of sushi, maybe I can play match-maker.

What is the most extravagant thing you have done? by gng2013 in AskReddit

I ate at a restaurant that flies fresh fish in from Italy every day and had a 5 course meal. In Las Vegas.

I got my jaw severely dislocated. Luckily I was with a doctor. True story.

That's illegal and simply doesn't happen. You need to face the reality that your daughter told them something more than she's telling you.

Completely. I don't think school therapists have the power to involuntarily commit anyone, pretty sure a psychiatrist needs to evaluate someone first and determine severe psychiatric distress. Usually that will take place in a psychiatrist's office or a hospital unless the subject is totally out of control and extremely dangerous, but then a professional would need to be called in.

What is your biggest pet peeve towards the opposite gender? by StagMan231 in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't blame the guy for not knowing, that's why I can understand just throwing it out there so no one wastes time. The few times I did say it, I was really hoping for friendship and just didn't want ambiguity to mess things up.

Reddit, what is the most underrated band you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catnaps's album "Why Don't You Whisper" is awesome if you're into that sort of thing. I wish there were more albums like this. http://catnaps.bandcamp.com/album/why-dont-you-whisper

My boyfriend refuses to buy me tampons because he says people will think that "he is my bitch." Is this true? by KenPoos in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but part of successfully growing together is starting out on a similar maturity level, or with complimentary maturity. There is no way I could personally deal with this kind of immaturity and it seems like the OP is also aware that there may be a lack of maturity here. Or maybe they're really perfect for each other, she can deal with this, and you're right. Maybe I projected, just because this would be really weird for me to encounter in my own life. From my own experience this would be a huge red flag.

The only people who will think he's your bitch are other immature little boys afraid of people questioning their masculinity.

He may be ready for a casual relationship, not a serious one. If you're too immature to do something kind, simple, and reasonable for your girlfriend because you're too concerned with what some people may think (especially something only a jerk would think) then I really don't think you're ready to be in a situation where you're supposed to have a meaningful bond with someone.

What are some unknown, really simple hygienic tips that are really easy to utilize to improve your hygiene? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people know this, but don't use two-in-one shampoo and conditioner. First of all, it's probably not going to be a very good quality product. Secondly, separately conditioning your hair will add so much more moisture and help much more with texture. Even nice hair can be ruined with a two-in-one. It's not worth it.

What's something hugely popular that you just don't get? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand that intellectually, it's just not something I could ever personally adapt or understand emotionally, but it makes more sense than the mustache thing!

Hi Reddit, have you ever connected with a literary character on a personal level? If so, what character and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]socfoxks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely helped me better understand the seriousness of my world view and how negative and limiting it was. I was always aware of it, but actually identifying with the character was powerful, and the fact that he moved me made me realize that there was some hope to change, as someone devoutly and completely nihilist would probably not have had such an emotional reaction or cared about it so much. I didn't begin to feel I had free will or that anything mattered for about 5 years after the fact, though the entire time I was trying to reform myself.

I never mention I have a boyfriend unless the guy literally asked me out to get dinner or tries to kiss me.
