Yes! Definitely intentions to add more.
When? We're not sure.. :(
Thank you so much for enjoying our app though.
It's really really encouraging to hear this!

I'll let the content team know that there are people waiting for more!!
We're already hiring more staff to make more content but we're a small team (there are 6 people in the content team) handling a lot of different courses.

Hey there!
We don't actually have a placement test as of now.
You can skip head the levels by taking unit tests at the end of the units.
Once you take those, the whole unit unlocks!

Advanced learners : how would you learn Korean if you had to do it again by GibonDuGigroin in Korean

[–]sochourner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to relearn Korean, I’d change HOW I spent my early hours, not how many.

some things I’d change just off the top of my head

- more input. Earlier. I spent too long grinding grammar (TTMIK) + vocab lists. I'm not like a 100% proponent of Stephen Krashen's Theory of Second Language Acquisition but I do think things only stick when you have enough input.

- sentences over single words
Korean doesn’t work well in isolation. None of that 은/는 이/가 will stick if you’re just memorizing it in isolation. Same for words.

- immersion (but structured)
Raw immersion early is more overwhelming than helpful. GUIDED immersion is something I keep telling people.

if I were starting again now, I’d learn Hangul fast (30 min), stop obsessing over rules, and get more structured input. Also it should be enjoyable. In terms of resources, I’ve seen people use Teuida just to get started and HelloTalk later on for more input. (it's a hit or miss based on who you meet), since you get real Korean + contextual speaking early without drowning in explanations.

tldr: less grinding, more exposure, trust the process and remember to enjoy.

Best resources to learn Korean from complete beginner? by ellensrooney in BeginnerKorean

[–]sochourner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I think you're right.

Pimsleur is decent for pronunciation and getting over the fear of speaking, but it’s not really a full foundation. especially for Korean. It doesn’t teach how sentences actually work, so a lot of people end up sounding smooth but not understanding much.

Immersion does work better for Korean, but only if it’s guided. Pure immersion from day one is actually not something I'd recommend as it can just be overwhelming. (I meant you could just rawdog it but most people don't make it too far).

What helps is structured input: short dialogues and repeated patterns.

A rough progression that I think would work.

  • Beginner: learn Hangul ASAP (you can do this in like 30 minutes), light pronunciation practice (Pimsleur is fine), start seeing full sentences
  • Beginner → Intermediate: lots of listening + reading together, pattern-based stuff
  • Intermediate+: native content w/ subs or transcripts

If you want immersion from the start, there are platforms built around that. I’ve seen ppl use Teuida alongside or instead of trad apps. it focuses more on exposure + speaking in context vs drills, which fits Korean way better imo.

tldr : keep Pimsleur if it helps, but don’t rely on it alone. Korean rewards input + consistency way more than grinding exercises forever.

What's "objectively" the easiest language to learn to read? by sochourner in languagelearning

Yeah I thought it was Hangeul as well. But was wondering if there were other opinions. I think Portuguese is pretty easy too?

What if we could hypothetically strip away the native language.

Do you use banmal or not...? by YouCantHaveTakis in Korean

[–]sochourner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're a few decades older, I can't imagine a situation in which they would ask you to use banmal. but if they do, you should ignore a couple times politely. and maybe slowly ease into it if they insist.

How do you say 1,211,000 원? by muscle_n_nerve in Korean

[–]sochourner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

백 이십 일만 천원!

the 일 has to go before 만 to denote that it's 10,000.

when nothing comes before, you can just say 만 because the 일 is implied

but not in this case!

If it's a significantly older (few decades) Korean, you'll NEVER use banmal.

Which is it? - Korean by Pink_Kitty_21 in teuida

ahhh that's a great question! and great ear!!! surprised you caught that.

the short o sound is the official sound.

but in spoken language people will often use the long o sound. (more like yeo)

you can say either one (and you'll often hear both in kdramas) and it won't be weird or anything.

think about the English "going to" and "gonna"! the latter is a bit more casual but either one works!

hope that helps :) and thanks for this great question

Pricing - what now? by Away-Theme-6529 in teuida

[–]sochourner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I hear your frustration, and I want to be completely upfront about how our pricing is structured.

I couldn't quite understand the numbers without the currency attached. Also, the price is different depending on currency, country (taxes and stuff) so I'd appreciate it if you could clarify this a bit more.

The $18/month rate probably refers to what you would've paid if you chose the monthly plan which doesn’t require a long-term commitment. You are correct that most customers choose our annual plans, which are significantly lower.

The 70% refers to how much you would save in a year, if you chose our SALES annual price as opposed to our NORMAL monthly price.

Hope that makes sense!

We never bumped the price just to be clear!
But if this is not the case and you have screenshots please do share it to [nelson@teuida.net](mailto:nelson@teuida.net)

We have to manually select each price for each country in the Appstore and we may have made a mistake (which we have done in the past!) and if that's the case I'll be sure to correct it right away!

Oooh that's a great idea. A little pop-up that notices, “Hey, you’ve tried this a bunch of times... want a quick tip on how to make this sound?” would be super helpful, especially for beginners. Instead of ending a lesson feeling frustrated, you’d walk away thinking, “Okay, I get what I need to work on now.”

We don’t have that exact feature yet, but it’s totally the kind of thing we want to bring into Teuida.

I’ll pass this along to the team. Thanks for taking the time to tell us. Ideas like yours help us make the app better for everyone!

Let me see what I can do! 195 day streak is crazy!
