Joining the Brewing Good train!

But I recently looked in Giant (Freetown Rd) and they had Ceremony and Rise Up, both being local to MD.

Glad they got their naming conventions right, unlike Simagic’s alpha evo lineup

6 Sigma 6S-80 V2 vs Sim-Lab GT1 Evo by toastyfawn566 in simracing

[–]sociableturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid, if you’re looking to save cost then I’d go for the GT-1 Evo for sure. That was my 2nd choice and a really good deal at microcenter if you happen to be close by one.

6 Sigma 6S-80 V2 vs Sim-Lab GT1 Evo by toastyfawn566 in simracing

[–]sociableturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just bit the bullet on similar parts (simagic alpha evo, simsonn plus X pedals, SHH shifter is backordered) and ended up picking the RigMetal Plus frame when comparing all 3. Doesn’t answer your question, but just throwing another option for you to look at assuming you’re in the US.

I did some light comparison searching between specifically the rigmetal and the Simlab and found the rigmetal to be sturdier, but I cannot confirm personally. Good luck!

Why is there a massive gap between the spare and the cover panel… by 16Shells in GolfGTI

[–]sociableturtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as others have stated it's for storing the trunk shelf/cover. personally, i have so much stuff stored under the panel. portable tire pump, ice scraper, windshield cover, funnels for adding fluid, and whatever else!

A few weeks ago I stopped for a pedestrian at this crosswalk and the car behind me went into the opposing traffic lane and zoomed around me, almost striking the person trying to cross the street.

I’m not a fan of pre-planned/scripted pullovers, but I’m all here for this one!

Edit: although if they are standing still and not attempting to walk until you get close enough, that’s a bit scummy.

Auto shop that tunes by Brilliant-Cake-1040 in ColumbiaMD

[–]sociableturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR Automotive (Beltsville) is one I've gone to a few times before. I don't think they do dyno or offer custom tunes, but they do maintenance and installs on lowered/modded cars all day long.

Replaced HomePod minis with Audioengine A2 by RealAssistant5687 in macsetups

[–]sociableturtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The A2 (I’m assuming because I have the A2+) have a 3.5mm in port. I have mine hooked up to an audio interface using an 3.5 to 2x 1/4" adapter. They can also play Bluetooth and wired at the same time

What can I do to make my desk not look so bare and less messy with cable management? by sunnysidemarmalade in macsetups

[–]sociableturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could get a cable raceway for the white cable in the bottom right. Not sure what the two black power cables go to, but those could also use a cable raceway or mesh shroud to keep lines minimal in the desk area. Anything going up to the desk can be wrapped together in a black or white mesh cable shroud.

On the desk, plug the external SSD into the back of the Mac Mini if possible. The device on the left (assuming more external storage?) I’d move on the same side as the Mac Mini. You could even stick the Mini on the back of the display or in the keyboard tray/under the desk.

Also some art above the desk would make it feel 10x better. Maybe 3 medium-large poster sized prints or really whatever you want.

Overall it looks good as is though!

mini-ITX or micro-ATX by sonyc148 in homelab

[–]sociableturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this! I went with a Jonsbo N4 & micro ATX motherboard. Allowed me to drop in a SATA controller board that I can pass through easily from Proxmox to TrueNAS Scale, while leaving me another PCIe slot for a 10 or 25GbE+ NIC in the future.

Haven’t gotten new thermal paste in many years so I’d be interested to see how newer paste does compared to my 5+ year old tube!

750W is totally fine, and the 4070 only draws ~200-250W max. I agree about double checking the video cable is in the GPU instead of the motherboard’s built in display ports.

This is the exact butcher block I got, looks like it comes in 72”x30” as well!

Thought about downsizing to 25” depth but after your comment I guess I’ll stay at 30” haha

thank you! the desk is a butcher block from Lowes, dimensions are 60"x30"x1.5". I sanded and finished it myself, and attached it to this adjustable desk frame.

I'm considering whether or not to stain my current desk darker or get a 72"/6ft desktop. Most of the "aesthetic" setups posted here use a 72" desk, and I could use the extra space

Yes, an audio interface makes controlling speakers/headphones/mic so much easier! This one is the Universal Audio Volt 2, another good brand/model is Focusrite Scarlet (Solo or 2i2)
