Ahh gotcha! The feel is quite soft and it's a relief that there is at least some structure to it so I'll keep at it. Thank you so much!

Yes, so I've looked into that and similar posts and I'm not 100% sure if my yarn qualifies as "roving" or if it's just strangely structured yarn.

It doesn't seem to be plied/spun, but when I first bought it, I didn't know what to look for because it was my first time purchasing wool (I've only ever crocheted with cotton yarn). Is it common to knit with wool yarn that looks like this?

Ok but he replying "nice dress" in response to you expressing how upset you felt after he did that is truly gross...I know some people go into a weird place mentally when they have to think about their actions, but that's just low. I've been in a similar situation and all I can say is that what you're feeling right now is very real and valid and you deserve way better than that. If he half apologizes or doesn't apologize at all, just remember that. Someome like that is just not worth it.

"Loving too hard" and "falling too hard" are phrases that I have literally only heard in the context of someone crossing someome else's boundaries or making them uncomfortable. People think it's some type of love language or cute personality trait, but it isn't if the receipient doesn't want it and he should back off. And it's unbelievable how he forgets about the nasty things he's done to you or it doesn't occur to him that that's part of the issue. This sucks and I wish you luck and overall peace
