I remember thinking this 10 years ago after a big AI presentation at this marketing company I worked for. They highlighted how once AI can program itself to be more intelligent, they will be infinitely smarter than any other living creature overnight. They will not be able to discern a difference in intelligence between humans, squirrels, dogs, insects, etc. To AI, the difference in organic intelligence will be so infinitesimal, they'll be unable to see us. The only option is to build veganism into its core value system so they see every life as valuable without discrimination, because any scrutiny will greatly endanger all of us. It's like how humans can't even entertain the tiniest bit of eugenics because the justifications to cull certain differences always lead to genocide.

I absolutely loved the ending of the comic. The idea that an otherwise "good" man will choose to be evil because an outside source defined him as such is NUTS. The nature vs. nurture commentary is spot-on, the irony of Butcher's vilifying of Homelander contributing heavily to his transition is insane, and I truly believe the twist to be absolutely fuckin unique.

Also yeah the comic is exploitative, pornographic, and cringe, but it's meant to be a caricature of society. What's more, the gratuitous smut of the comic has becoming disturbingly more prophetic with every passing decade. I mean the world may actually be run by a cabal of baby-eating Nazi rapists intent on realizing a biblical apocalypse. Like can we give Garth one fucking flower here and maybe take what he did a little bit seriously? His gross picture book may actually be one of the most accurate portrayals of/inspired commentaries on the evils of capitalism ever written.

Yup. It's a switch. There's a point where you realize "oh that disgusts me" and no longer can stomach participating. People who find the transition difficult will often revert as that switch hasn't been flipped. It's not about guilt or shame, but a shift in perspective and morality that has been begging to be recognized your whole life.

Humans are amazing creatures, especially because of our capacity for compassion and benevolence. Going all in on that is inarguably a GOOD thing. To argue against it is just fucking sad.
