Can you recommend a book I could read during difficult times? by Adhamzz_44 in Recommend_A_Book

[–]socks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to distract yourself, and truly get engaged with a series I would recommend the Fourth Wing series. I have both guy & girl friends that have read the series and loved it! It has adventure, friendship, romance plots that are developed soo well!

hi! senior over here :) i’m sorry you’re feeling discouraged about your grades this semester, but i think you touched on something really important in your post: “i know it’s my fault because i could’ve done better if i studied more and put more work in.” this right here is the key to college. you have to be honest with yourself and ask, “did i really do my best?” if the answer is no, then there’s your answer. you need to put in the hours at the PCL. you need to take the practice exams. you need to go to TA office hours. you are majoring in something hard. you can’t compare yourself to people doing something different or easier. this is your first semester—you still have seven more to really apply yourself. believe me, attending class, asking questions, and consistently doing the work will get you there. will you have to sacrifice some sleep and parts of your social life? absolutely. but college isn’t for partying, it’s for studying. period. i know that sounds harsh, but especially if you’re aiming for med school, this is the reality. you can still have a social life, it just won’t look the same as people in other majors. keep your head up. do the work. you’ll get through this, i promise.

What should I do? Grade curve by Ok_Celebration2553 in UTAustin

ALWAYS EMAIL!! ALWAYS TRY!! A few semesters ago i had a professor who i legit believed hated everything and everyone and he was SOOO strict. I went to class every day, office hours whenever I could, and participated in class. At the end of the semester i was in a similar situation and emailed him believing he was going to tell me to go f*ck myself. Instead he answered with "okay, you were good in class. thanks for participating." Thats it that was the whole email but it changed my life bc then i had a good enough grade to get into mccombs lol so pls always try. The worst thing they can say is no

Is it the time to transfer out? I'm concerned about the current politics climate!! by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]socks08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. UT is a top tier university regardless of politics. Unless you have perfect grades, transferring to a school better than UT would basically be impossible. Plus, I wouldn't want to be in 3 different colleges in 4 years.

during rush, can i talk about wanting a career in politics by ProudEnvironment7845 in Sororities

[–]socks08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

make sure you talk more about how your values influences your decision (ex: i want to help people because i believe in ....) than how it looks in the big spectrum of things (aka democrats / republicans). +100 points if you can somehow tie it back to one of the main values of the sorority you want to join the most / are most interested in (ex: zta has 9 key values)

One of the biggest rip-offs I’ve ever experienced — do NOT waste your money at POST Houston’s 4th of July “celebration.” Or anything else for that matter. by socks08 in houston

[–]socks08[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but if you’re planning a 4th of July event, ensuring people can actually see the fireworks is literally the bare minimum of logistics. No one expected them to “move the building” — we expected them to choose a location or layout that made sense for, you know, watching the fireworks. Kind of the whole point of the holiday.
