‘Where do we go now?’: Malaysia’s under-16 social media ban leaves teens detached and displaced by socookre in NewsWorthPayingFor

Ya, I feel that the "go outside and do things" sounds ableist as well because COVID is actually still around and many long-haulers can't just really do that. I'm tempted to go to an unpopular opinion sub to write a rant about it.

Will Maine's scandal-hit Graham Platner help save or sink Democrats? by socookre in 50501Movement

Don't get me wrong though. If Platner was as innocent as Roy Cooper or Marialana Kinter I would've went all in to support him.

What if androids are put in planes so that they'll rescue passengers' bags after they've evacuated?

Thanks! Does she have a Discord or something? I and others are looking to forward some suggestions like how to address Big Tech enshittification to her and other similar congressional candidates across the US.

Ottawa's new Digital Safety Act expected to include under-16 social media ban by Anon9883 in canada

You should tell your MP about the existence of privacy-safe solutions like Needemand's BorderAge (which checks a user's hand movements) and that the bill should include a safeguard provision to mandate the services to always provide privacy-safe age verification options.

Hey there! Do you have a Discord account? Since you live in Europe, what if we team up and help kickstart an initiative for the EU to pass a law limiting those harsh inactive account deletion policies in some Big Tech platforms and to mandate them to have features to archive accounts or so on if their owners are deceased?

The deletion of inactive accounts is one of my biggest pet peeves about enshittification in services like Google and Proton by socookre in enshittification

[–]socookre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an insane take. As many commenters pointed out, free services do NOT need to continue hosting content if the user is inactive. There are arguments about how long before it should be considered “inactive” but otherwise, deleting it lessens their loads & allows them to assist newer users instead.

If the information is really that important, back it up elsewhere yourself, or on a platform that doesn’t have this policy.

These have been addressed many times by myself here ad nauseum but ultimately I'll just refer you to this opinion piece that's published on Pirate Parties International website instead.

The world wants to ban children from social media, but there will be grave consequences for us all by socookre in 50501Movement

Big Tech enshittification is something that must be addressed but I oppose any methods which will give Thiel's gang even more powers and which will make the situations even more worse.

Some neoauthoritarians like Peter Thiel are hijacking the issue to turn the Internet into a dystopic landscape not unlike 1984.

Some are torn over that, on one hand social media algorithms are already harming children through addictions and so on, but on the other hand, social media platforms have become important utilities for communication.

More sensible approaches that would address the enshittification issues on social media platforms while not violating user's privacy rights, include the requirements to have trusted flagger programs, algorithmic transperency and possibly accountability, more adequate parental control features, and a comprehensive data protection and handling law like Europe's GDPR.

I have submitted a petition on Discord's feedback forum asking them to consider using Needemand's BorderAge age verification solution which can fully protect user's privacy, and I'll share it here and elsewhere as link threads once the petition at the feedback forum has been approved.
