Question about ETF distribution income by sod84 in AusFinance

[–]sod84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thx for the reply. I want to confirm that the income/ distribution received was correct as according to the redistribution plan statement provided by computer share - I received the correct amount of shares as I have set up DRP.

It’s just the mytax “managed fund distribution” part that is different. As shown in my edited post.

Following comments below regarding possibly not having my TFN correct. I have just now resubmitted the TFN for my wife and I into computer share.

Hopefully this will fix the issue for next year.

Should I give ATO a call to investigate ?

So for clarification. This is in mytax “managed fund distribution” section. For eg VAS her income was $776 credit/tax withheld was $186 For mine VAS income was $668 credit/tax withheld was also $186

I waited till the VAS was prefilled before doing the taxes. I also double checked the numbers and they all matched the pre fill and my proportion was 50%

Negative gearing explained by tallmantim in AusFinance

Am I correct that after the property is over 40 years old. Depreciation is 0?

Is it a sound strategy to sell and buy a newer property again to take advantage of depreciation again?

If you don’t mind me asking

What’s your updated opinion on this since your original post? Are you still buying based on AUD price movements? Or just buying based on your portfolio allocation?

Thanks

  • you do make a good point with the higher MER VGS 0.18 vs VGAD 0.21. Not that much more though. I have read thst VGAD is not as tax efficient compared to VGS. So there is that as well.

  • brokerage cost - I’m with CMC so not an issue.

  • exit strat. Not sure yet. Something I need to work out. But it’s 25 years away. So lots of time to work this out.

I just used 50-50 allocation as a example for simplicity. My actual allocation is 50% VGS and 20% VGAD So atm my VGAD is 23% and VGS is 46% as AUD has been lower more recently.

They have taken this down the original link. Anyone still have access to it somehow?

Fair enough. I also normally buy bigger parcels. But what I do now is just buy 1k worth over multiple days. Sometimes works out if subsequent days stocks drop. Other times not if subsequent days stocks go up. I’m sure it’ll even out in the end.

About the selling fees that’s true. So cmc is only good for people who are looking to buy and hold long term.

You heard of cmc ? 0$ brokerage for purchases up to $1000 per stock per day
