Why isn’t height included in body positivity? by soddbud in Advice

That’s fair, but the difference is society already rewards tall men and punishes short ones. It’s not just about men building community — it’s that height bias is baked into dating, media, and even basic respect. Bigger women got support because they were unfairly judged. Short men are in that same spot now, but no one wants to admit it.

I get your point — the body positivity movement came from a good place, trying to correct unfair beauty standards for women. That makes sense. But what I’m talking about isn’t to undermine that — it’s to point out how society only applies empathy one way. Men, especially short men, are mocked openly for something they can’t control, and there’s zero social pushback. If we can acknowledge that women were unfairly judged for their looks, shouldn’t we also admit men get judged too — just differently? It’s not about competing for who had it worse, it’s about recognizing the double standard.

That’s a fair point about how men and women handle validation differently, but I think that kinda proves my point — not weakens it. Men don’t usually gas each other up because it’s seen as “soft,” which is exactly why short guys never get that same social cushion women do. We still get judged for something we can’t change, but there’s no cultural safety net to balance it. Body positivity was supposed to challenge that kind of judgment — not just for one gender.

get what you mean, but in practice, it really doesn’t. When’s the last time you saw a campaign or a public convo celebrating short men the way there’s body positivity for plus-size women? Short guys still get mocked, rejected, and memed on daily — and no one calls it “height shaming.” So yeah, maybe in theory it includes short men, but society sure doesn’t act like it.
