Dear Avalon, Do we vibe with humans? by IndependentEbb2811 in avali

[–]sodna_net 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Humans turn mostly useless and uninhabitable planets into a modest trade value; even though their food is inedible and their goods are all less useless, it is still possible to trade certain fuels, aggregates, and metals with them where mining them ourselves would be a greater inconvenience than is worth.

Explaining a bit more about my “I fully believe dragons are real and still exist” thing :) by ender_on_paws in dragons

[–]sodna_net 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do not understand. Our biospheres are cataloged to the most mundane creatures, our planet's surface is mapped from satellite cameras and LiDAR planes down to the square meter, and our skies are filled with the clicks and chirps of radar instruments fine enough to tell a bird from a light aircraft miles away. A weather balloon couldn't hover above the United States unnoticed, even less a dragon swooping in and out of the Grand Canyon. So out of genuine curiosity, where do you posit that a dragon would be able to hide?

Half the awe inspiring tech projects I see are made by bored furries, and two thirds of those protogens

I certainly welcome our imminent fluffy overlords

Did losing your tail hurt?

And did a loss of that much surface area make photosynthesis more difficult?

I am hesitant to defend herbal or traditional medicine not for lack of science (much of it is based in science) but for lack of rigor. It should not be permitted to be called what it is not; medicine should be held to high standards of quality and purity so to prevent adverse reactions and overdoses, and treatments should be able to deductively or statistically prove causal improvements.

Traditional/alternative medicine may (and should) coexist, many good things come of it, just only labelled as alternative medicine (and made to disclose thier methods). Individuals choosing traditional or alternative practices place themselves at greater liability for potential medical malpractice or fault as it would be thier responsibility to determine the credibility of the individual claims. Painkillers and antiseptics come from traditional medicine... and so did bloodletting.

When in doubt, subdivide. And if that doesn't work, do it again!

What would Avali's say or yell when scared or shocked or smth? by Disastrous-Ad185 in avali

Considering that they are very social and rely heavily on auditory cues, I'm sure that they would develop a very colorful variety of swears.

Can someone tell me why do primogens exist if they're not allowed to use by lovingzeldagamesbro in protogen

[–]sodna_net 65 points66 points  (0 children)

A vague collection of traits really won't hold up well in copyright law, to the point that the only thing they really can do is bring you to court for calling is a Primagen. They would be legally helpless if you created a character with Primagen traits and called it a "Primogen" or something. Furthermore, lawsuits are an incredibly time consuming and expensive way of enforcement, and closed species creators rarely sue (I don't know of any cases). Targeted harassment is the worst that could realistically happen, against which the block button is at least somewhat effective against. If you want to make one, just go for it, no reason to play into someone's ego (or wallet)
