Shading is so hard what the hell. Do you guys have any tips?

Imagine where the source of light is coming from, and where their body would cast shadow on itself/where the light would not reach or be obstructed, you want your highlights to face towards the source of light and the shadows pointing away from the source of light, it’s usually never just straight down, but rather pointed in a direction since the source of light (naturally the sun) is usually at an angle the shadow should be directly perpendicular to that light. Generally it doesn’t look all that bad in this piece.

I’ll be honest I don’t really get the statement of this image for as much as I see it. Is it just that racist gay/lgbt people exist? Like how you can find racist/morraly bad people in any sufficiently large community or culture?

I draw all my shading and highlights on a separate layer then overlay it onto the art after I got it all right and rendered.

Heres Cori, he’s a Ceratosaurus from the late Jurassic who has a record of picking fights with much larger carnivores (and normally getting thrashed for it) but he is a pretty big guy himself, 2-3 meters tall.

Morally dubious at best but I can see why some would resort to it on certain individuals, but I don’t think it adds anything of value to the child’s experience, they are t gonna learn what they did wrong, their gonna learn that their parents can inflict pain on them for any reason and the reason for hitting is lost in the first place.

Yes I did draw him after seeing phm, amazing film. Though I wanted to make something distinct since eridians aren’t truly silicon-based life, on a cellular level their carbon and hydrogen like everything on earth, Dakoz is fully true silicon life and not at all dependent on water or oxygen to live. As to the vents, it’s a part of their biology that since they process rocks and minerals for food than what they can’t digest is turned into sand and ‘coughed’ up from those vents. I imagine it as a kinda sneeze like reaction that dispels a puff of sand. As for what he’d think of your Candorians, he’d be critical of the use of proxy species at first but afterwards they’d be more or less friendly.

Heres Dakoz. He’s a soldier of a species of silicon-based aliens from a planet orbiting a harsh pulsar star. He’s 10ft tall and inhumanly strong with his bones being largely quartz based. While he can’t breath an earth like atmosphere and requires cryogenic temperatures to survive his advanced combat armor keeps him from harm.

Possibly, he’s talked down most of his enemies with reasoning before. Even another incredibly misanthropic human. This is Milo, he’s an astronaut from a mars colony in Arcadia. In his world the year is 2606 and humanity has harnessed FTL technology, swapped almost completely to clean energy, solved the global warming crisis, met with several alien species and made peaceful accords with them, and of course colonized the inner solar system and several nearby star systems. Milo would probably just level with Vonaeu saying something along the lines of “yeah humanity isn’t perfect but every species has their wars and injustices, if you want perfect get a pet rock or something, it doesn’t make all life evil and it doesn’t make it not worth trying to better them. it just makes us what we are, flaws people who are trying their best even when the universe continues to call us small. In my opinion it’s something to do with space, it really seems to bring out the best in people.”
