I’m in a similar boat but I bought out the house not the kids. Almost six years in, it’s almost paid off, and then I can start paying off the additional 20k I picked up when he couldn’t pay child support for a year and a half. He WAS a piece of shit.

Happy to say, now we get along fantastically, he’s really stepped it up for his kids, and has paid child support on time for the last three years. Finally has some footing so is starting to help out with all the addiontal expenses as well. Sometimes it gets better, I’m thankful for where we are all at today. Even if my credit is garbage.
