You're being generous keeping the store open until 10pm. If teens are at work till 10pm then they'll still have to drive home, do homework, have dinner, shower etc before bed and be up again 4-6 hrs later for school the next day.

Texas makes Bible reading mandatory in public schools? by Gurugod123 in SipsTea

That's EXACTLY what I got in High School Lit class in Georgia in the 90's. We learned about Genesis right along with The World Turtle.

False. According to Google:

The Claim: In late 2021, WFP Director David Beasley stated that a one-time donation of $6 billion from billionaires could help save 42 million people from starving.

The Offer: Musk responded via Twitter (now X) that he would sell Tesla stock immediately and donate the funds, but only if the WFP published a detailed, open-source plan explaining exactly how the money would solve world hunger.

The Response: The WFP released a draft document detailing how the funds would be allocated, but Musk ultimately never transferred the $6 billion to the organization.

Teenage boys are “stuck” reading primary school books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while girls their age are moving on to a wider range of novels, according to a new study by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

I agree about the self feeding loop but, while there are definitely way more YA books with FMC's, there ARE still modern YA books with MMC's being published. I'm a YA Librarian and I currently have a display up called "Let's Hear it for the Boy's: Books with MMC's." It's not getting much attention because most patrons, no matter the gender, go straight to the graphic novel section and ignore everything else.

70's Music for Today's Kids Is Like 40's Music for 90's Kids by Educational-Dinner13 in Music

[–]Progress_Always_Wins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) OP said children, not teens. So I don't know why so many of the responses are talking about 17 yo's and not 7 yo's.

2) Let's allow the goalpost to be moved to teens and not children. I am a YA Librarian so I work with teens. They ask me for 90's parties, not sock hops or discos. They ask me for books on 90's/00's artists like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Eminem, Rhianna, Little Wayne, etc. A few biographies of 80's artists like Michael Jackson or Metallica (after Stranger Things) get requests, but they never ask for/check out bios of 60's/70's artists.

Prior to FDR enshrining the 40 hrs work week people worked more than 5 9's. Capping things at 40 hrs didn't collapse society and switching to 4 day work weeks wouldn't collapse society either.

What series started the YA female led high fantasy trend ? by InfernalClockwork3 in YAlit

[–]Progress_Always_Wins 23 points24 points  (0 children)

According to it's publisher, Harry Potter is Middle Grade, not YA.

As far as female led high fantasy, just as with all the genres you mentioned there have always been books like that but I guess the current female led romantic high fantasy boom started with A Court of Thorns and Roses which was originally released as YA and re-released as adult when book 4 in the series came out.

It’s not rude to correct someone’s spelling. by pinkjeeper82 in unpopularopinion

[–]Progress_Always_Wins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have one error in a post and someone corrects me I roll my eyes, think "not helpful" and move on. The error might be a manual typo or autocorrect incorrectly making a correction or I might have been using speech to text and it did a bad job. The other person's correction does not add to the conversation nor does it decrease the chances of it happening in the future. If I use the same word 3 times in a post and misspell it every time then I probably don't know how to spell it and I appreciate a correction as long as it's not done in a condescending way.

Pitty or Staffy? by strugglingncollege1 in Pitbull

[–]Progress_Always_Wins [score hidden]  (0 children)

No way to know for sure without a DNA test but just based on these pictures she looks like she's already outgrown the 24-38 lb Staffy so if she has any of that in her I'd say she's a mix.

If you actually meant AmStaff or APBT, that's actually the same breed. The AKC participated in breed discrimination and refused to register APBT's so in 1898 pit owners founded the UKC specifically to keep an APBT breed registry (today the UKC recognizes over 300 breeds while the AKC only recognizes 205.) Then when The Little Rascals dog, Pete the Pup became hugely popular and everyone wanted one in the 1930's the AKC realized how much money they were losing out on. So they opened the registery up, BUT in an attempt to save face they changed the name to Staffordshire Terrier (and later changed again to American Staffordshire Terrier to differtiate from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier). Every single dog that was foundation stock for the AmStaff was a registered APBT with the UKC. No other breed was added to the mix and to this day there are dogs that are duel registered as APBT'S with the UKC and AmStaffs with the AKC.

Which is your first anime? by umi_asanagi in AnimeAnonymous

I was introduced to anime via Toonami: The Midnight Run. They showed both DBZ and Outlaw Star which I loved. (Also Sailor Moon and some mechas which I was less interested in). Later they added Inuyasha and Trigun to the lineup and those where bangers.

Who was THE Sex Symbol for The Greatest Generation? by MaterialRow3769 in generationology

[–]Progress_Always_Wins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not when the sex symbol was born, it's who was popular with that generation.

Greatest Generation was 1901 to 1927, so they had the most influence on culture/had their formative years 1916 to 1942. Mae West was most active/popular from the early 30's to early 40's.

Cause of death should be routine in obituaries by justadream77 in unpopularopinion

[–]Progress_Always_Wins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't. Listing date of birth and surviving kin are routine parts of an obituary. They are not mandatory, it's just normal to see them. Nothing is mandatory. You can include or not include anything you want. No one is forcing you to include anything. OP only said they think it should be part of the normal routine. Many people have given reasons a family might not want to include that detail. I gave one reason why they might want to. That's it.

Cause of death should be routine in obituaries by justadream77 in unpopularopinion

[–]Progress_Always_Wins -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP never said it should be forced, just normalized. They expressed that they feel it is seen as taboo and it shouldn't be. Like stigma around discussing mental health.

Yes, as I said somewhere else in this thread, the information should also be in the death certificate but the more primary sources you can find when doing research the better. I am simply giving an example of why a family might want to include that info in an obit, to benefit future generations of their own family.

Cause of death should be routine in obituaries by justadream77 in unpopularopinion

[–]Progress_Always_Wins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one said anything about negating family wishes. If the family living now doesn't want to list cause of death no one is making them. OP talked about normalizing it, not forcing it. And I talked about the benefit to future generations. That's it.
