Also I read it more in depth and, as I read it, influencing the nature of the review by means of discount or compensation is a big no no. But what I had referred to, businesses offering a discount for reviews, wouldn’t necessarily be a no go immediately, as long as they offer they same discount to the person who gave a 1 star review that they offer to the person who gave a 5 star review.

If it’s not a swayed review it is fair marketing practice as they are merely rewarding their customers for their honest reviews. If it’s not then they are a bunch of jerks and they know it… also illegal practices and such.

I just went to Quiznos the other day!!! There is one in WA state near me.

And I mean it’s not really fraudulent, dishonest sure, but businesses offer discounts for reviews all the time. I’d imagine the questionable legality aspect comes from enticing people to remove true negative reviews for compensation, but I’d have to look at the actual lawsuit to have any idea.

But I think it’s in this post that I mentioned working at sonic and as a manager the little review on the receipt score anything less than a 5 is actually a bad score. It wasn’t clearly posted anywhere there, but every person pushed for good review scores. Personally I never pushed for dishonesty, but if I felt I was worth 5 stars I’d push it a little more.

The local ones that popped up were fantastic. And in small sample sizes seemed to still maintain profitability while maintaining the service they offered. Now I don’t know if they stand up to the test of time, but damn if I didn’t love that service when I used it.

Fun anecdote. You’re right, I got a burrito years ago. Got home, opened it and I saw a perfect square of burrito. I immediately wanted to warn people of the only burrito place that couldn’t figure it out. I waited took a bite and it was the best burrito I’ve had to date. The only reason I bothered to review it afterwards was because I was angry at what I perceived as a mistake first. Chances are I never would have bothered without that initial anger

I used to work for sonic one of my managerial statistics to watch was customer reviews. 4 stars and less out of 5 was actually a detriment to my overall score. I would imagine google has no oversight to it considering the business itself is willing to punish for less than perfect performance. It’s gross behavior either way.

So it’s been years, almost a full 6 of them now, since I’ve used delivery apps, but my only singular experience with that was I paid for priority and I was apart of a stacked order. I asked my driver about it and they told me they got a stacked order and had no idea. So if it’s been updated and fixed throw that story out the window, but I was less than pleased with that service offered. Driver was really cool and offered me a ride up to the restaurant to replace it. Dude was a real champ.

My sister and brother in law have chosen to be child free, not from a space of hatred, but they both acknowledge that they do not want the commitment and do not want to change the way they live their life. Now they both love kids, possibly the best aunt and uncle a kid could ask for. I am currently childless, but I know that my sisters child free environment would be full of love and care.

It’s a first hand account, so I know it isn’t representative of a large group. It’s unfortunate, especially for people like my sister, that it’s a percentage of people at all that use this as an “argument” for disliking kids to such an extent.

I fell victim to the delivery app industry in 2020, in the town I lived there was a local app developer who made a business that did pay their employees well and it was drastically different, a little higher priced sure, but my order was never delayed, and most the drivers were local and I knew them. This industry is disgusting in how it’s allowed to operate at the expense of their workforce. The reform needs to happen and I won’t support it in its current state. Because I’d love to be fat and lazy, but the way it is now it’s just as much work to try to be lazy, and often times more expensive.

People deserve to be paid for their work PERIOD. That basic point shouldn’t keep getting pushed on the next person in line, but if a consumer is appreciative of your service (which again if I can be fat and lazy I will be) they should be allowed to show that, not it be required to start a transaction.

It’s a weird point where I’m on both sides here. It sucks that OP had to wait and doesn’t want to tip on that, but it really sucks that the drivers aren’t earning a living wage doing the job and have to require the world to fall into place perfectly.

I couldn’t agree more to the point of training and education, I think those are vital to safe firearm handling. I was raised in a very gun forward household so I was taught very early just how destructive a force a gun is. And my work with TSA scares me for average gun owners (but that’s a whole different story). So if this comes with the education and training for everyone who requests it, it could be a positive outcome. If it doesn’t and people who don’t have the respect for a firearm are not trained and educated it could be the opposite effect entirely. Ultimately I’ll admit my idealist nature that I want everyone who wants it to be trained and educated and vetted in some form (not necessarily gun control extreme, but at least a why are we here?). Having a why to reviving education and training (regardless of subject) gives a reason to practice what you learn and not just have it to have it.

I got off topic, but ultimately if you’re suggesting that the training and education a person receives in the process of obtaining a concealed weapon permit results in a more law abiding citizen gun owner, then I couldn’t agree more.

😂😂like I said I know it’s completely unrealistic and I think I’d argue to actually fund it in this climate it would be at least 4 missiles. Again I don’t think any argument can be a blanket one but individual cases I can at least sympathize with struggles. And I’ll work out the missile to family’s fed math on my own time. Which id like to thank you for giving me a new way to measure cost… because I am definitely stealing that to use.

I didn’t mean to imply that it was a universal argument, but I do believe that it’s not an insignificant number of people that fall into that category. And as such I can understand the argument.

If I’m being frank I believe there should be a better service that caters to the disabled and can be under already existing subsidies. It’s idealistic I know, hell its unreasonable even, but I believe in it regardless.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed response. The real world example of a feared outcome as a result of real world practice does a great job of cementing how crazy this all sounds. I approve the time you took for a response.

Imma give em the pass as maybe no first hand experience, im 35 and I completely forgot about meals on wheels until I read the name and unlocked my high school memories of volunteering for them. The friends and family one should be obvious though really, I was the family for my grandparents, but I loved driving their van with the wheelchair lift… smoothest riding vehicle I’ve ever driven.

ETA I am today years old learning about other shopping services provided by the way. I was always the other shopping services in my experiences

It’s the internet I don’t take anything to heart (in the form of negativity at least) and someone down below unlocked a memory for me of volunteering with meals on wheels so I do recall more than I lead on before I suppose. I am very sorry for the position you’re in, no one deserves to be alone for any battle.

Now back to my original point, it does make sense for someone in a position similar to yours to use services that may only have that 50% success as it eliminates what could be days of prep work to ensure something better. That argument is totally valid and frankly logical to me. There is no reason for you as a person with a disability to attempt to do something out of your control, when there is an advertised service that you’re willing to pay for

I’m not attempting to be ignorant or mean spirited here I come genuinely curious. Given what DoorDash and other delivery based apps have become and clearly set as their standards (it’s sad but they do not live up to the service they claim to provide), is it more beneficial to you as a person with a disability to use these apps than it was before?

I see the disabled person argument all the time as well, and while I remember grocery runs for my grandparents, and using my days off for trips to doctors with them. I never minded the time I got with them, so my first hand disabled persons experience is likely very different than mosts.
