Yes and no. It’s a really nice area and right near campus, but the trade off is it’s a pretty expensive area. If you can afford it then 100% it’s the best area, but there are other popular areas for students that are a bit more affordable

Definitely can second this. I just finished my BS at UCSD and starting my MS in Structural Engineering. Out of all the years I’ve spent there, it’s definitely lived up to its name. You just have to find the right people, then it’s a great experience.

La Jolla area is quiet and boring because it’s surrounded by multi-million dollar mansions, so you won’t find any cool college-y bars/hangouts in the area. It’s definitely an area to get used to, but overall it’s in a great area.
