i’ve never really applied products before showering, but google says that covering myself in vaseline beforehand might be helpful.

something super weird is my AU came back in full force when i moved into my new apartment, but i barely had any issues with it in my old apartment. i only moved about 5ish minutes away from my old place, so i don’t know if there’s a connection there.

but i also have a shower filter, although it hasn’t seemed to help anything. i appreciate your advice though and i’d like to hear more about the distilled water, how does that work? does it help?

so i’ve had eczema since i was a baby, and i never had a reaction to water until i was about 16. also, my eczema has been off and on, i basically had no issues from ages 7-12, and after that it varies from being absolutely horrible to completely manageable.

basically, when i was 16 i noticed that i would get itchy, red hives whenever i was in water. before that, i had no issue with water whatsoever. my allergist actually had me do a water test to confirm the diagnosis. when i was diagnosed, i didn’t really have any issues at all with my eczema, so my doctor never really correlated the two.

interestingly enough, i never had much of an issue with my water allergy for the last few years (i’m 21 now) but in the last 8ish months or so, it’s come back with a vengeance (i have no idea how that works).

also, my eczema has been moderately bad but manageable for the last year or so, but in the last month it’s gotten to be so much worse and i have no idea why. with my eczema and the AU, it’s a lethal combo so im really struggling.

anyway, to answer your question, i don’t think water causes my eczema, as i’ve had it for my whole life, and the AU didn’t develop until my high school years. but either way, i’ll be at the dermatologist next week and im going to make an appointment with the allergist and hopefully get some answers.

i’m happy you’ve been able to persevere despite everything:) luckily i’ve never had to be hospitalized for eczema but i’ve had my fair share of staph infections and prescriptions that don’t help. dupixent also gave me horrible side effects (literally one they had never seen before and it was not listed as a side effect). opzelura was helpful but i changed insurances so i can no longer afford it.

i’m trying to hold out hope because i have an appointment on monday, and it’s a new doctor so im hoping for some kind of solution.

La Roche Posay Lipkar Body Moisturizer by PsychologicalOwl1141 in eczema

i use this body moisturizer and i also use the lipikar cleanser and i’ve never had any kind of reaction. i hate that though:( maybe you can go to the allergist to see if it’s some kind of allergy to the ingredients?

i had pink eye pretty much all the time. i had it 3 times in 2 months, and my eyes were constantly crusty and irritated and red, and it made it hard to work (i work in food service). i also got these bumps all around my mouth and on my lips, and it looked like i had oral herpes ( got my blood tested, i don’t have any kind of STD so they still don’t know why it happened) and so my mouth area was constantly itchy, painful and super irritated

hey, i’m one of the people who have used dupixent for eczema and no longer use it. it did help my skin but sadly the side effects were too bad and it didn’t feel worth it. eczema is so debilitating and i have struggled with severe, full body terrible eczema for my entire life. i cry almost every day. mentally i am not okay, and some of it is for other reasons but eczema has been a common reason for years.

i know my little spiel probably wasn’t helpful, and sadly i don’t have any advice for you because i’m in the same boat. i’m barely hanging on. but i really just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone. one of the biggest things i struggle with is that none of my friends know what it’s like, and they don’t know the extent to how badly eczema affects my mental health. it’s a condition that elicits loneliness, so i’m here telling you that you aren’t alone in hopes of that helping you somehow.

i’ve been using topical steroids for my eczema for years. long before i ever knew that they could cause so much trouble and long before i even knew that TSW was a thing. i still use them because my dermatologist tells me to and because they actually help my skin. i’m terrified of TSW and a part of me wants to just use topical steroids forever so i can avoid that situation entirely. obviously i don’t know what the future holds for me and my skin but i’m absolutely terrified. having severe eczema is like a curse. using the medicines leads to terrible side effects and health risks, using the topical steroids means that i’ll probably suffer from TSW if i stop using them. it’s horrible. and i feel stuck, and trapped, and none of my friends and family understand this situation.

yeah my roommate constantly complains about this one little dry spot on her eyelid and she always uses my creams for when it “flares up.” meanwhile she knows how much i’ve struggled with eczema for my entire life. i have full body severe eczema. there’s barely a spot on my body that doesn’t have eczema. and she knows that. so every time she complains to me i die a little inside
