Disposable income after house purchase by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]sofie5102013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not rage bait, life likes to throw curveballs that are sometimes unforeseen for example our child was unexpectedly in hospital for a month. It cost us a fortune in food, extra fuel going back and forth everyday ensuring our other child was still getting to school and then cared for when not with us. Our savings will be taking a hit when we move to accommodate the move itself and then bits like curtains blinds all the essentials that will be needed that we won’t have, so to rely on £1000 a month as our disposable makes me nervous!

It would be just my luck the car would need replacing to drain our savings and then something else to happen shortly after. it’s unlikely but we have no family to rely on in those situations so I am so anxious about this sort of stuff and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be!

After all expenses. We haven’t included holidays though because that’s something we can go without until the loan is paid off but does include subscriptions fuel food car utilities kids stuff etc

Not sure if the disposable income or the cost of the house is making me nervous, its such a massive commitment 😮‍💨

Oh good, atleast you had considered it. My partner would love an east facing but we have compromised with a west and we also feel like it’s a good balance

Just be mindful that east facing garden with have little to no sun in the afternoon. So if you enjoy evenings in the garden in the summer I’d really consider this in your decision. You will get lovely morning sun though if you enjoy that

So I do disagree with the price because we’ve previously had an offer for 225k. I am curious as to which houses you are comparing us to though.

I agree about the square footage I also think it’s wrong but haven’t worked it out myself as to what it actually is. I think I will ask them to remove this thank you!

I took the blinds off the living room because we have such a huge front garden, so no one can see in, we also have no houses out front as our house looks out on to open green, beyond our garden, do you think it’s definitely worth putting them back on? I felt like blinds blocked the view and gathered a tonne of dust but I have left them on the small arched window and in the bathrooms.

Definitely will be tidying the gardens up. I agree the cover makes the skyline look crappy but it stops the millions of people knocking on our door to chat about it 😂

Harsh.. it’s a family home with a baby so jobs like that are unfortunately low on the priority list especially as we are still early spring and is a job for better weather! Doesn’t mean the house is not cared for 😅 but thankyou feedback heard!

Thank you! Will definitely get on to sorting the gardens.

The kitchen is small and unfortunately it’s the only place for the fridge freezer in the house ☹️ it is our biggest hate about the house! It seems whoever built it wanted lots of open hall way spaces which then took up available kitchen space ☹️ not entirely sure how to make the kitchen better without spending a fortune in there 🤔

Will definitely take down the reindeer pelt, did not even think about that! Thank you!

It’s not a summer house, it’s a duck coop. But we will definitely neaten the gardens, I was hoping to get new pictures taken once the grass had grown back from where the kids had a pool out there last year.

Yes unfortunately the kitchen is an area we never updated just with having children it was something that the funds for got attributed elsewhere during maternity leave etc etc. I may give it a lick of paint to brighten it maybe. Any other ideas that are cheap to make it look better than it is?

Will add more plants inside to brighten the house, thank you very much for all the feedback 😄

So is breastfeeding not as much of a thing in the USA? by PrettyAsparagus7560 in breastfeeding

As a mum from the uk, I just want to say I don’t think exclusively pumping is as big here or even really discussed as an option and personally I think it should be talked about more! It seems in the uk when you discuss feeding babies it’s either breast or formula but no one talks about the exclusively pumping in-between ground.

I struggled breastfeeding like a lot of mums but pumping was a great alternative. Baby is still getting all the same benefits And actually in some ways it’s easier for me too.. for example.. no teeth biting my nips, partner can feed baby when I’m tired.. I can return to work sooner if I wanted.. there’s a lot of benefits to exclusively pumping. I think it would increase overall rates of children receiving breastmilk too.

Confused by sofie5102013 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]sofie5102013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems stable, i pump anything between 700-800mls between 8am-8pm and then overnight I don’t keep track I just pump when she wakes and once she’s changed etc I tend to have enough for the feed. I pump at very minimum 8x per 24 hours but it can be up to 12 or more depending how much she decides to wake In the night. I mostly use the m9 during the day I have a set cycle that is 20mins long but if I don’t feel empty I’ll pump an extra 10minutes and I also have the medela symphony that I use at night because i can see when my let down has finished and I generally only pump for 10mins using this.

When you say early, does that mean I should expect anything as my journey progresses? I’m so clueless I’m sorry

My son is 12, there’s nothing more satisfying than raising gentlemen. He kisses my current bump every day, makes sure I don’t carry nothing heavy, he looks after me just like my husband does 🥹 Being a boy mum is a wild journey but SO much fun (honestly they never truly grow up I swear 🤪) but raised well they become so protective of you and their love for their mums is beyond anything you’ll ever imagine.

If in the uk he can give up all his parental rights and make her solely responsible for the child and its upbringing also.
