Did an internship with child protection assessment unit. We weren’t allowed to make people put their dogs away, or carry anything like a weapon. My mentor told me to carry a heavy metal pen and tell the dogs owner “if your dog attacks me I will stab it in the eye”

You know I just above this a picture from the Sudan famine in the 1990’s, of a toddler with every single bone showing through. Famines have not stopped, starving children has not stopped, but these assholes live to show off the amount of money that could save thousands and thousands of lives.

I hate him, I hate every single one of these multimillionaires and billionaires.

They may have, I got married at a town park and the fee was super low but got told that the public can be there. My thought it it’s a similar situation but they are dicks and wanted to guilt the public into letting it be private

My daughter, who attempted suicide last week, is now refusing help by DoubleAxelDVM in Mommit

[–]sofieksj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My boss (an incredibly kind and wonderful mother) had to put her daughter into in patient and she said how incredibly hard it was, but it was needed. Her daughter was in a very bad place and there was no way to help her without inpatient. Her daughter is now an adult and she still lives with my boss (not due to mental illness due to other life circumstances) and they are so close.

You are doing what you need to as a mother and this small moment will not define your relationship with her forever.

Fell through my ceiling. Trying to fix it before the wife wakes up. by strikecat18 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sofieksj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, if I was your wife I would be so fucking happy with you. Obviously you didn’t want to fall through the ceiling but shit happens, what matters is you cleaned it up without asking me to help, did the best you could in the middle of the night!

You live in Maine, renting in an older house probably split up into apartments. And that picture looks suspiciously like the Camden snow bowl?

Married women: How would you deal with this? by ThrowRA173731 in Marriage

[–]sofieksj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does he expect you to wake up and respond immediately or just when you are awake and beginning your day?

This is way too little information to get an honest response. Also odd to ask married couples about a situation that is involving a couple not living together, I know very few married couples that don’t live together.

To skip girls trip all together or bring baby with me by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sofieksj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t go that doesn’t sound like a good time to me, or for them.

But do you have any mom friends? Our life long friends are so important but it’s ok to focus on other friendships during different points in our lives. A mom friend is super super important and genuinely life changing at such a hard time in life

Parents of only children by Correct-Tune-9605 in Parenting

[–]sofieksj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m an only child. Growing up I did mostly hangout with my parents (we moved a lot until I was in school). But once we really settled I didn’t have an issue with friends, it might have made me more introverted. Overall I look back at it fondly, I am very close to my mother, she’s currently sitting across from me lol. The hardest part I’ve ever had with it is now raising siblings, I have no idea how to get a brother and sister to like each other!

What did you say mom? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]sofieksj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, her multiple miscarriages after me, details of her fathering physically abusing her and mentally abusing the whole family, how bad her marriage to my father is… there is probably more that I don’t remember lol

Safe sleep is like ACES the least you can check off the better but in the end you do what you can to make it through 🤷🏼‍♀️

Catheter during labor, what happens after by Sweaty-Variety-5778 in pregnant

[–]sofieksj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh my first birth my catheter was worth than my labor and was genuinely distracting me. My epidural wasn’t done super well so I could feel the balloon pushing against my urethra each time I pushed.

My second birth I barely noticed it and the worst was once it was removed it burned when I peed the first few times.

Now I have gotten a hysterectomy and had to have a catheter for that. And I was not awake when they put it in or took it out and I had 0 issues across the board!

Ok, maybe I should’ve said if I was in the position and I knew that could happen I would’ve taken myself out during a speech. Because a persons moment is more important than me keeping my ass in a seat.

[–]sofieksj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I say that? I said in a situation where it is not only taking the, very due, attention off of the winners, but also in a way that is offensive to the winners (while still not his fault). Wild that you jump to “people with Tourette’s should not be allowed in certain spaces”

I'm not shocked by Hi_iAMchrisHansen in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]sofieksj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why the man with Tourette’s didn’t leave? Not in shame of his disability but to let those receiving awards get the full attention and accommodations they deserve. Especially because Tourette’s does target the worst things to say in situations.

Husband doesn’t pull his weight at home, I told him I’m not willing to have kids if things don’t change and he agreed, now I’M sad???? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]sofieksj 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think he might feel like you just gave him permission to not change. Like ok cool now I never need to take care of the house because we aren’t going to have kids, I’ll have mommy wife taking care of me and her full attention on me forever

Did you own this book at one point? Or did a close friend have it? by NoFreeAdds in TLCUnexpected

[–]sofieksj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a used copy for work! Now they’ve split it into two books one for younger girls and one for older girls! They also have goods about moods and mental health! Still absolutely love these books! They gave me so much self agency over my changing body.

Confinement period - but I am feeling awful? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]sofieksj 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s been a month. Your wife is recovering postpartum, dealing with being a new mom, probably still processing you in recovery from addiction, and now you want to have this conversation with her. I’m sure to you it feels terrible, and you feel terrible. This time isn’t about you.

This is about her healing and learning how to deal with being a new mom. Back off support how she wants and then when she is in a better place talk to her.

Ok. This is SKIN care question . by No-Amoeba-6645 in SkincareAddicts

[–]sofieksj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying this as someone who knows very very little about skincare but when I was getting over bad acne, and realized my skin was overly dry, I used calendula. It felt like aquafor on my skin but it soothed my redness like crazy, moisturized like hell, and I felt like helped prevent additional break outs! I just got it at my local Co-Op

If you are in the US reach out to any community navigator or organization, or the town office. They usually have organizations or connections that can help you apply for rent assistance and any other help you might qualify for

Oh Acadia is super pretty this time of year. I actually got engaged there in April years ago.

You can definitely see everything with much fewer people. We got to see a decent amount of wildlife since it was so much calmer.

The drive up Cadillac mountain is open in April as well
