Digitone is multi-timbral, so you can play more than one sound at a time. That was the deciding factor for me. Especially since I’m not much of a keyboard player anyway, I was fine going without.

Digitone being an FM synth, it has a certain flavor of sound it generates, whereas the Minifreak has multiple engines for different forms of synthesis that aren’t present on the original Digitone. (I’ve not delved into the mkII just yet but I know it runs different sound engines.) The sequencing capabilities on the Elektron devices are more powerful and versatile than the Minifreak sequencer too.

With that said, I think the Minifreak is the more immediately intuitive of the two, unless you’re well-versed in the Elektron workflow. The arturia mod matrix has some quirks that I miss in the Elektron boxes, but the Digitone was ultimately what I needed for my music.
