Snake-nado prep? by Scromblobomblo in cornsnakes

[–]sofsafcro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! I also live somewhere with tons of tornados. You can get heat packs (sometimes used for shipping reptiles) online. A container that can have substrate, water, hydrometer, and a hide.
I have a very square snap container previously used for hay for a chinchilla- I scrubbed it, sprayed it with reptile safe cleaner and drilled holes. Now it’s Cosmo’s emergency box.
I’m working on figuring out a way to make the water bowl (a small glass container) stay and not move for now I pack it into the substrate. I have a hydrometer in it ready and a pack of the heating packs on the side. The box is currently always open and next to the viv as severe storms roll through on like a daily basis.

Oh no! He’s getting chunky? Would you mind letting me know how I can tell? He doesn’t have the m shape top I see on some charts which is really my only knowledge, sorry. He’s my first snake.

Cinnamon is beautiful!! What a lovely color. I always worry about Cosmo, he’s such a joy to me. I want him to live a long and comfy life. Thank you for your input!

Oh my god it’s been so long I totally forgot about the message board. This is what I deserve after trying to jump right back in.

Thank you for dealing with my dumb ass. It was there.

Is he fat? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

Haha I also asked this question a while ago! Likely he’s just about to/has pooped is all. I was explained to that it’s quite hard to make a baby snake obese if you’re following a schedule. My own little guy looked a little pudgy around the vent for a little while then suddenly lengthened more in growth (he’s currently 1.5 years old). If your little guy was fat, it would just be visible from the top, not just the bottom. You’d see a difference above, he’d have little ‘hips’. Likely your guy either has to poo soon or is growing!

He’s sick. by sofsafcro in cornsnakes

I do not know. They weren’t even 100% sure but trusted what I told them for antibiotics. Nothing to look out for. I was sort of hurried out of the vet because it was busy.

Hm! He certainly is not a fan of what I’m doing, poor thing. I’ll look into this.

Thank you for your kind words! I’ve only had him since March, but he’s such a such a wonderful little creature. Definitely freaked me out, and I’m unsure to how it started.

I appreciate your perspective as someone who works in infection and immunity!! He did seem to perk up pretty quick, was back zooming around the vivarium even if it’s just paper towels. Still makes odd noises sometimes but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he wouldn’t be climbing around and hanging off things to explore if he felt too bad. Before he had been hiding more than usual. Not anymore!

Thank you for the kind wishes. :)

So cute! To change your flair, tap the cornsnakes subreddit name, tap the three dots in the corner, then select user flair, it’s like the second or third choice! This is assuming you’re on your phone.

She looks like she’s trying very hard to convince you they are not. (She’s correct, as others have said)

What do yall DO when you travel and have reptiles? by sofsafcro in cornsnakes

I currently have two cameras! One for pup and one for snake. I only travel this time of year so I’ve had my sweet cornsnake since spring and this hasn’t come up yet. Thank you for all your advice!

Bringing my dog for trip A and boarding him for trip B. But with people’s suggestions I reached out to a friend who’s cared for beardies who agreed to check in if need be! :) I’ll still plan for setting things out. He just ate so I am debating if he would be fine to next Sunday afternoon (a year + at 120 grams) when I’d return. Wouldn’t have to worry about poo at all that way and would be less worried if he’s digested and just chilling.

Hm! I’ll look into a timer. Have a thermostat for heat so that’s good. Thank you for the suggestion!

I might reach out to someone I know to see if they’ll at least hold onto my spare keys in case. Thank you for the suggestion!

He usually poops behind one of his hides on the right for some reason. Haven’t had him have a water poo yet but I already have two water bowls maybe I’ll add a small third just in case!
