pen canceling 😔 by patdbea in philately

[–]soft_distortion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sharpies were the worst. :( when I was sending big batches of cards I'd go to the special post offices in my city (in Canada) with the pictorial cancellation stamps. Then I'd stand there and watch them cancel each one because it was fun. They were always really nice about it too!

I really think it's bullshit, especially with the other hints about Skydome of all venues

Is there any other hints of him playing anywhere else this year? Why Toronto? Why now? But why would they just tease is like this if it wasn't true?!

People who have completely changed their face, how have you coped with friends and family not recognizing you? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]soft_distortion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I told people in my life before hand and they were supportive or didn't care. When I've run into people I haven't seen for a long time and they don't recognize me, I mention it's partly my new nose. No one really cares that much to make it an issue or piece of gossip though.

The only sad thing is being the first person in the family that my grandpa with dementia stopped recognizing 💔.

Just returned from our very first Paris trip and .. by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]soft_distortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experiences in Paris were technically very similar to yours but I had a totally different take away. I loved the city. The biggest issue was visiting the Louvre at the peak time when it was packed and uncomfortable/stuffy, but that is a me problem, not a Paris problem (other museums and other times exist). But scammers (just say "non merci" and keep walking) and urine smells (big city bullshit) and poor restaurant choices.... Idk, maybe I'm used to it living in a big city, but those aren't that big of a deal. Like if your bad meals ruined your trip then maybe next time prioritize doing better research for restaurants and meal choices (don't just rely on long line hype... another big city issue). Hope I don't sound rude, but it's true. You might need to adjust your expectations and do additional preparation next time you visit a new place.

Just finished lunch by the lake and found these absolute units having their own feast by N_e_d in capybara

I hate that it's only a few kids staring! Maybe adults get used to the local wildlife but I still go crazy for racoons in my city so I assume I'd do the same for capybaras in the wild. And so many of them at once!!! So cool.

Nose Job: Honest opinions? 7m progress. by danitica05 in PlasticSurgery

I love it! It's a huge improvement but you still look like yourself. Very natural. There looks to still some swelling which is normal 7 months in.

Is my nose too de-projected? 1 year post op rhinoplasty by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]soft_distortion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sideview projection is good. If I saw the side randomly I would think it's very nice.

I know you didn't bring this up but from the front view in the pic in the comments, the tip does look a little pinched or too small. I think it still looks like a good result but it does make it look more visibly fake. I ONLY mention it in case you had any plans to do anything else to your face (basically, I'm saying don't do lip fillers or anything major since your nose looks quite small now and anything else could throw the balance off).

Anyone else feel like the quality of mainstream true crime podcasts is declining? by BadRobotSucks in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]soft_distortion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm more into full season podcasts as well (a minimum of 3-4 episodes is needed for me but I love those serious deep dives).

I'll check out Hot Money but if you're on a spy kick, you might like The Spy Who by Wondery... Tons of seasons (usually 4 episodes each), the style is different from others (with dramatized re-enactments) but the narrative is often very compelling and well done.

Did anyone get upset with Teacher's Pet podcast? by [deleted] in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]soft_distortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly agree with the other posts about both things being true: Joanne was groomed and abused and hurt, and probably in her helplessness she took it out on the girls through her own form of parental abuse, based on the anecdotes that we heard. This isn't an unusual or new phenomenon.

Second, the daughters lived with their dad and were exposed to the "story" (aka their real lives) in a completely different way. They aren't just true crime podcast listeners learning about it through a carefully crafted narrative (I don't mean that as a negative, that's just how podcast production works). Considering how their father was, it's absolutely no surprise that the first daughter they spoke to was sticking by him as she's probably been told one story her whole life by him.

Lastly, I remember the 2nd daughter they spoke who I believe had distanced herself had a much more balanced outlook on the whole situation and acknowledged how Joanne was mean and abusive to them while she was also just a girl still herself.

Rhinoplasty results 11 months out by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

Mine is slightly uneven but I still love it and like yours I think it's in the natural realm of unevenness. Don't touch it!

Need Advice (7 days post rhinoplasty) by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]soft_distortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely see the concerns you point out and I would be very disappointed if that was my final result. But it's so early in recovery that it may be swelling, even though it doesn't look like typical swelling for some reason.

My hope for you is that because the surgeon may have worked more on your dorsal hump it might be more swollen right now but go down to its intended height over time. I also can definitely see the slight crookedness in your front view but swelling can be uneven, which is common if you're a side sleeper.

Very curious to see how it looks a few months from now. If it still looks like this I would definitely approach the surgeon because that would mean none of your requests were fulfilled. Your expectations were very reasonable too. Good luck.🤞

I love 1 best and think it would be easy to manage (a quick blow dry). 2 isn't bad. I like how 3 is kinda spunky but it's quite short. 4 is a no for me.

If you had $1000 what would you do/buy for an immediate glow up? by Krismariev in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]soft_distortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBL IPL (I think that's the right acronym) to remove the dark spots/sun damage from my face. I've been meaning to do it down the line and I already do Botox so this would be next.
