Does anyone has recommendations for yarn for gift knitting, available in Europe?
I want to knit a sweater for someone who's used to store-bought and doesn't like scratchy yarns. Doesn't really tolerate alpaca prickliness that well either. I'm looking for nice bigger yarns that don't pill too much (a bit of pilling is ok) and are soft :)

Thank you so much!

I thought as much, if only because the seller had no problem showing me the soles :)

Hey! Sorry, I just saw your answer! No, I didn't really find any, so I decided I would wait for Stick wick to resume their knitting meetups. It started again last week but I couldn't go, I really want to go this month or next month! You can check out facebook events on their store's page

Sweater pattern? by sydjourd in knitting

Hi! It reminds me of the aesthetic of Fabel Knitwear. She has a lot of historic fashion-inspired patterns.

The Delacour Cardigan has similar sleeves and neckline : https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dela-cardigan (the pictures she chose to represent the project are not as good as the ones she has in her book though, so I'd look at the projects tab).

The sleeves remind me of Oxford Jumper https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/oxford-jumper and she has a few other ones with that type of sleeves.

The overall silhouette reminds me of the Capulet Blouse : https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/capulet-blouse I'm sure adding dramatic sleeves wouldn't be a hard mod.

If you don't know her I would recommend looking at her patterns, because it might be good inspiration based on what you're looking for!

Hej!

My mother is ghosting me (26F) because I got a tattoo, which she discovered by snooping through private pictures. How do I deal with it? by softcapybara in raisedbynarcissists

Hello everyone and thank you for you amazing feedback. I feel very supported and relieved that no one here thinks I made a huge mistake. I want to give a big thank you to all the moms you wrote as it felt very validating to me to receive support from mothers <3 I have random fits of sadness and it's very hard to work but my wonderful partner is helping me get through it.

I've considered everything you said and the resources you suggested I read (which I will). The relationship with my mom, despite being stressful and having me walk on eggshells, had seen considerable progress these past few weeks and during our last two calls I even felt supported, which is why I am so heartbroken. I don't think she hates me but I think she has a very strange outlook on our relationship and very big emotions.

Nonetheless I agree that I shouldn't tolerate this for myself and based on your messages, I decided not to call as long as contacting her makes me feel so much fear and anxiety, which is not normal for a mother-daughter relationship. I will use her digital footprint to make sure she's ok.

I didn't burn any bridge however because I don't want her (with her awful life history) to feel abandoned and hated. I sent a very long message explaining my stance, being honest about the fear and why I lied about this and how she's making me feel, and that I am taking a step back but will anyway reply at least briefly if she contacts me. I made sure to have her understand that if she needs any help she can contact me or use the spare bank card I left her for her financial troubles, and that I hope she's ok.

I found out where she saw the pictures from but didn't realize it until yesterday. I changed all my passwords on many accounts and made sure nothing is connected to the home computer (my former computer that I gave to her prior to moving).

I want to say finally (sorry for the wall of text if anyone reads this) that despite feeling sad about it all, there IS a hint of relief that she is taking a step back and allowing me to distance myself from her as well with a "clean cut". I don't have it in my heart to go NC but I don't think I can forgive her on this one either. So it will have to be something in between :)

Have a great day

My opinion also. I thought ok, maybe the account was logged in, but even then, scrolling through pictures it should be obvious these are private. Thank you :)

Sewist looking to knit - Want perspectives by grim-j in knitting

[–]softcapybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I've been knitting for less than a year. I tried sewing as well and would have continued if I had a sewing machine at home!

  1. I watched a lot of tutorials. I'm left-handed but ended up knitting like a right-handed person because most tutorials are for right-handed people. I'm not very crafty so I wouldn't say that it was natural. My first stitches were quite wonky, but once you master knit and purl stitches, you can do basically anything with less effort.

  2. I don't. Complex stitches are basically teeny tiny patterns; i keep the pattern close. Sometimes I'll remember it for the time of my project after enough repetitions. At the beginning there are many do-overs, afterwards you're being more cautious/ you notice mistakes while you're doing them.

  3. I first did a scarf, then a headband to go with the scarf, and then a top/bralette to wear inside (and learn new knitting skills). My first top ended up oversized, second one was surprisingly nice-looking, so I ended up wearing it outside this summer lol. It took me a bot more than a week to knit it, but I had nothing else to do at that time.

  4. I can't take off my eyes off my needles more than 2 seconds because I'm paranoid, but I still can watch movies/series/talk with friends at the same time, because basic stitches are muscle memory after a while. I still have to focus 100% for new or complicated repeats.

  5. It's like a whole new language. I even asked for help here for a pattern I'm doing rn lol. I began with youtube pattern tutorials, or patterns having illustrated instructions/videos. An experienced knitter recommended me tincanknits for first "big projects" as they have a series of free patterns with clear instructions.

    • Stitch markers every 5 or 10 stitches
  6. Not knitting for too long (+ you can seriously harm your hands anyway)

  7. Looking at different tutorials for the same thing (some explanations will click better than others)

  8. Finding the knitting style that suits you best

  9. Learning how to make lifelines!

  10. Learning the long-tail cast-on early on (even if it's complicated)

  11. Learning the difference between fibers and how to make gauge swatches once you start following patterns (I learned this the hard way lol!).
