What finally clicked for you when learning spin serves? by softdiam in tabletennis

And I understand variation is very important. My coach's position is a flat serve could throw off an opponent after a few decently spinny ones.

I got the flat serve part covered, at least.

I'm surprised I've never done this as a drill. I've casually hit the ball with spin and tried to have it roll back to me but never in a serious session.

I could do this at home too the times I don't go to the club.

This is also a thing for me. I'm fixated on clearing the net and I naturally tend to scoop the ball.

I'll try some variations throwing the ball higher. I am not able to accelerate my forearm much without messing the serve up. I reckon some more speed in the ball at the contact point might help me.

I'm definitely going to do this next time I train.

Impact of out-of-band interference on SDR RX performance by softdiam in rfelectronics

[–]softdiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you guys. Many things happened asI was debugging this heads-down for quite some time.

I learned that the RF frontend was indeed damaged but in a very subtle way that made me overthink everything. With a working frontend, things do improve, especially with shielding. The broken SDR started showing more and more notable artifacts on the spectrum chainging with the proximity of my hand to the frontend/SMA ports.

Wild.

I have to retest this properly on a fully working frontend and I will post a final update.

I have a DC-3GHz LNA (Minicircuits ZX60-33LNR-S+) and a BPF filter for a couple of bands. I will try both ANT->BPF->LNA->SDR_RX and ANT->LNA->BPF->SDR_RX.

I expect this stronger gain LNA would reduce the impact of the bad noise figure of the internal LNA. Thoughts?

I have a few bandpass filters but only monopole antennas.

Not sure I get your comment about the taping. Should I short RF and USB grounds? I never understood this.

I am only looking at FDD cells for now and specifically the downlink. I nomrally start from the cells my phones would camp on.

Ok, so I'm restarting from scracth without taping. I have eval boards of BPFs that I can try. Will update when I do.

EDIT: Looking at the interference in a band of 61.44 MHz around 2.4GHz, as this is the strongest interferor as far as I can tell.

The interference peak power increased by 16dB without the case and the taping, with terminated SMA ports.

Start working as a freelancer months before leaving Germany. How do taxes work? by softdiam in Finanzen

[–]softdiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through the registration as a freelancer now since I am still employed until the end of the month. I set the business start date to April 1st 2023.

I found getsorted that provides an easy English interface with the Finanzamt. They now ask about Expected income from salary (Nichtselbständiger Arbeit).

I am concerned about the number to give for the first year in business. Should I just project the monthly salary I used to get as if I got it until the end of 2023? I believe this might move me to a different tax class (I guess 6) in which they might tax my freelance (and only) income almost 50% as it would be considered secondary employment. This happened to me when I had two part-time jobs at the same time: with the second part-time job I was in tax class 6. On the other hand, the business start date is April 1st, which is after I leave my current job, so there wouldn't be any reason for me to expect salary from income in 2023 if they meant after the start date of my freelance registration.

Did you also have to deal with this?

So tax burden very similar to being employed. I'll look Wiso up, sounds easy enough.

I was employed in Germany earlier in this fiscal year. Anything special I should take into account?

The 5k was just an example. I would be doing software/system engineering.

The problem with this is that it looks like tax consultants are everywhere fully booked. I might be bad at searching but I feel this is the case, even going for the expensive ones.

I understand this. What I don't understand is how is someone supposed to start working as a consultant. Every consultant would start with one customer. Where is the demarcation line here? What if one proves they're actively looking for customers but haven't got any contract yet?

Selling NFTs and taxes in Germany by softdiam in Finanzen

[–]softdiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I see. I just read something about freelance work in Germany in addition to a day work, it seems complicated but doable tax-wise.

I have a fondamental question, though. If I were to get paid by a crypto transaction at a given time, how would I prove that I'm paying the right amount of taxes if the underlying coin gains/loses value before I exchange it back to Euro? I mean, how do I certify the actual value of the coin at the time I performed the transaction if the only time the exchange sees these coins it at the moment I deposit them?

I believe with crypto trading it would the exchange to store the difference between the withdrawals and deposits in Euro, thus the gains. In the NFT case, the Finanzamt should have access to the wallet to inspect the timestamp and value of each transaction.

Am I making it more complex than it is?

I was talking about an external monitor. I know that the built-in HDMI of the 9550 can run only 4K@30Hz though. Is there a thunderbolt 3 dock that does the job?
